    Abstract: A shave tool holder for use with an automatic screw machine and for machining a rotatably driven workpiece. The tool holder includes a shank engageable with the screw machine and for providing reciprocating motion of the shave tool holder. A dovetail shaped recess is defined within a forward mounting portion of the shank and a corresponding dovetail shaped projection in an opposing surface of the body in order to engage the body with the shank in a vertically deflectable and adjustable manner. A roller is secured in vertically adjustable fashion to a forward facing location of the body. A tool post is releasably secured to the body, through aligning apertures formed in the body and the tool post, a mounting bolt inserting through the aligning apertures for securing the tool post to the body. A cutting insert is secured upon the tool post in a desired spaced relationship relative to the roller and so that the rotatably driven workpiece is adapted to being received between the roller and the insert.

    Abstract: An improved method of cutting a pattern in a hollow, tubular workpiece to form a stent or the like involves the use of a novel workpiece fixture. The workpiece fixture is rigidly carried on a laser cutting tool to support a long piece of stock tubing in a cantilever manner beneath the laser beam of the cutting tool. The fixture is spaced from the laser beam by a distance which is in a range of approximately the same as to slightly greater than the length of any axial repeat in the pattern. The laser beam cuts the pattern in the stock tubing piece as the stock tubing is advanced past the laser beam. Accuracy is increased because the workpiece fixture is carried on the laser cutting tool, and because the cutting takes place in a zone that is close to the end of the fixture and the cantilever support provided thereby.

    Abstract: A skiving apparatus for simultaneously skiving the outer and inner surfaces of an end of reinforced hose. The internal skiving mandrel has a nose for coaxially receiving a hose end thereover, spiral cutting threads and a stop collar. To achieve the desired simultaneous skiving effect, the internal skiving mandrel and the outer diameter cutting tool have a coincident cutting direction. Thus, when the hose is fed over the mandrel and the apparatus is rotated the simultaneous skiving of the inner and outer surfaces of the hose is accomplished.

The variable yield stress in the fluid affects the coupling of the spindle to the machine tool structure, changing the natural frequency of oscillation.
