Abstract: An apparatus for removing spent primers from spent ammunition shell casings includes a body having a shell casing feed channel defining a punch zone and a shell casing feed zone, a guide channel and a shell casing inlet channel intersecting the shell casing feed channel at the shell casing feed zone, a shell casing feed plunger movable axially along the shell casing feed channel from a first position adjacent to the shell casing feed zone to a second position in which the shell casing is moved within the punch zone for removal of the spent primer, a handle assembly movable to drive the shell casing feed plunger from the first position to the second position, and a plunger guide assembly having a length adjustable to correspondingly adjust the travel distance between the first and second positions of the shell casing feed plunger.
Abstract: An ammunition cartridge case reloading die has a die body defined by an interior bore and a bore opening, and a retention cap attachable to the die body. A cartridge case tool is fixed to the retention cap in axial alignment with the interior bore, and a tip of the cartridge case tool is at a proscribed distance relative to the bore opening. A centering shuttle is in sliding engagement in the interior bore of the die body, and defines a shuttle bore through which the cartridge case tool passes, and a reverse taper opening receptive to the cartridge case. The die may has a biasing element disposed within the interior bore between the centering shuttle and the retention cap, with movement of the centering shuttle within interior bore of the die body being dampened by the biasing element.
Abstract: A vertical fill, form and seal (VFFS) apparatus for particulates that facilitates the close-packing (“settling”) of the particulates such that a smaller package is needed to contain a mass of particulates in a charge to the VFFS apparatus. The former of the VFFS apparatus, and an associated film driver, move up and down synchronously and in a controlled manner. A partially formed bag, below the former, containing particulates is shaken up and down as the former moves up and down, while the packaging film travels downward continuously in the apparatus. The shaking causes the particulates to settle, and to increase in bulk density. This allows use of less packaging, and lowers use of transportation fuel. In an embodiment, an actuator is in mechanical communication with the former (and its associated film driver) to apply a vertical reciprocating force to the former.

Abstract: A tube with a conical mouth slides over the neck of an ammunition cartridge and is pressed against the shoulder to align the case. A neck reamer translates and rotates within the tube, the tip being inserted into the neck. Both mouth and tip are replaceable, come in different sizes, and come with smooth or abrading surfaces. The tip and the mouth are coaxial. The mouth perfects the shoulder surface and the tip perfects the neck interior. This results in a cartridge case having a neck with an interior wall that is a perfect cylinder that is coaxial with the perfected exterior of the conical shoulder.

Lost motion in a drive train of the primer pocket swager can be used to position the case holder in the operational position before the swage head reaches the swaging position. A primer pocket swager can include an adjustable case holder stop, a pivot mount guide, and/or a case aligner.

Abstract: A bullet feeding device has an expandable collet insertable into a die body. The die body receives bullets from a source and directs the bullets to the expandable collet. The expandable collet restricts the passage of the bullet through the die body until the mouth of a cartridge case is inserted into the die body opposite the bullet. As the completed cartridge is drawn from the die body, the expandable collet and prevents the passage of additional bullets until a new cartridge case is inserted. The bullet feeding device may accept bullets of different lengths and shapes. The collet is interchangeable with expandable collets of other sizes to be compatible with bullets of different sizes.

Abstract: A subsonic ammunition cartridge casing having an engineered internal volume designed to allow for the introduction of precisely the amount of propellant necessary at precisely the desired location to reproducibly produce the desired projectile velocity and internal pressure is provided. The subsonic shell casing has an engineered internal propellant cavity built into the internal body of the casing itself that does not necessarily depend on the introduction of a separate volume reducing device such as tubing, filler, foam filler and the like. This ensures the integrity of the case, does not result in anything being expelled through the muzzle of the weapon other than the projectile, does not have any burning or combusting components, allows for very precise control of the internal volume and thus chamber pressure, and is economical to produce.

Abstract: A reloading machine is configured to check the length of shell cases of selected caliber against a length specification for the caliber. A shell case entering a workstation tool strikes a sleeve by end-to-end contact, raising the sleeve in direct proportion to any excess length of the shell case. A detector monitors how high the sleeve is raised and triggers a signal if the height indicates the shell case is too long. Length detection is derived from a powder measure assembly by monitoring the raised height of the powder body. Length detection is derived from a powder level check assembly by introducing an intermediate sleeve between the powder check die and check rod assembly. The intermediate sleeve is sized to engage a shell case of the selected caliber, at least when the shell case exceeds the specified length. The raised height of the intermediate sleeve allows determination of case length or identification of shell cases of excess length.
