  • Patent number: 7775149
Abstract: An action rate control system for a gas operated firearm that includes an action sleeve and an action rate control cylinder. The action sleeve moves in a rearward direction in response to a volume of combustion gases that are generated during firing of the firearm and diverted from the barrel of the firearm through gas ports. The action rate control cylinder is connected to the action sleeve by a linkage that controls movement and slowing of the action sleeve as it approaches a rear limit for its movement. The resistance force generated by the rate control cylinder is a function of the velocity of the action sleeve during its movement. In another aspect, a gas operated firearm includes a barrel, a bolt assembly, an action system coupled to the bolt assembly, and a rate control cylinder coupled to the action system. The action system includes a sleeve assembly that is driven by a volume of combustion gases that are diverted from the barrel when a round of ammunition is fired.

Abstract: An internal pressure relieving device for anti-armour ammunition. The device is mainly adapted for use with barrel-loaded ammunition, that is a naked round including a cartridge case, which normally would be located in its packaging. A plurality of slot formed openings have been cut out through a wall of the cartridge case and the openings have been sealed by inserts of polymeric plastic introduced with a tight fit into each opening. Hence, by the characteristics of the plastic material, the inserts can be configured to open up at a predetermined level of temperature. • Patent number: 7305911
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device by means of which it has been made possible, without gas discharge to the surrounding environment, to accelerate the speed of a powder-gas-driven projectile from zero to a speed which gives the projectile free-flying characteristics. According to the invention, this has been made possible by utilizing at least some of the expansion force from the propellant powder charge, which discharges gas when it is initiated, for, by a displaceable piston, driving a countermass out of the rear part of the projectile in the direction opposite to the desired flying direction of the projectile.

The discharge of gas is also made safer by an automatic mechanical mechanism for venting the accumulated gas, and this mechanism is activated as the projectile leaves the gun. The mechanism requires that the gas be discharged into the interior of the gun and the recoil-countering gas streams be directed toward a rearward moving breech block.

  • Patent number: 6568330
Abstract: A modular missile assembly includes a pair of modules which are separately transported and handled until just prior to firing, when they are coupled together. A forward payload-carrying module includes a forward canister which encloses a missile payload section, for example, consisting of a penetrator rod, fins, and ancillary sub-assemblies. An aft booster module includes a missile propulsion section, encased in an aft canister. Prior to firing, suitable forward and aft modules are selected, are individually loaded into a launch tube, and are coupled together. In this coupling the missile payload section and the missile propulsion section are coupled together to form a missile, and the forward and aft canisters are likewise coupled together to form a combined canister assembly. Division of the missile into separate payload and booster modules facilitates handling as compared to unitary missiles. The modular design also allows increased flexibility.
