  • Patent number: 11175395
Abstract: An angle only (AO) target state estimation (TSE) system and method using a mixed coordinate system (Modified Spherical Coordinate (MSC) and Reference Cartesian Coordinate (RCC)) as an integrated system. This integrated system is achieved due to the state vector information of two frames (RCC and MSC) is effectively preserved between processing cycles and state vector transformation steps. The AO TSE architecture and processing schemes are applicable to a wide class of passive sensors. The mixed coordinate system provides robust real-time slant range estimation in a bootstrap fashion, thus turning passive AO measurements into equivalent active sensor measurements with built-in recursive range information but with greatly improved the TSE accuracy meeting the miss distance required by many engagement missions.

Abstract: A multi-function radio frequency (MFRF) system may deploy groups of small or micro-sized unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to achieve various MFRF functions and mission objectives. Each member UAS may incorporate structurally integrated/embedded, conformal/appliqué, or mechanically deployable antenna elements, or may utilize characteristic mode transducers to excite conductive exterior surfaces of the UAS, such that each UAS may maximize its limited size or surface area to emit MFRF radiation according to a variety of MFRF operating modes. Member UAS may be fashioned by three-dimensional additive manufacturing (3DAM) techniques. Each UAS may coordinate their positioning and MFRF emissions with other member UAS to collectively form synthetic apertures and swarms capable of MFRF functionalities not achievable by a single UAS. UAS swarms may form new subswarms or dynamically reconfigure depending on changing mission objectives or battlefield conditions.

A conventional external fuel drop tank is modified such that the exterior shape of the tank is substantially retained while the interior of the tank is suitable restructured to allow for the introduction of diverse airborne stores, associated airborne store mounting means, control and monitoring means and support means therein, which replace the fuel store. The airborne store is suitably interfaced to the stores control and management system of the aerial vehicle. The airborne store is integrated into a new external stores configuration The enhanced airborne store will have aerodynamic characteristics substantially similar to the original external fuel tank while its payload capacity is substantially improved.

Abstract: An air-launched aircraft includes deployable wings, elevons, and vertical fins that deploy from a fuselage during flight. The aircraft may include a control system for operating the elevons, a communication system, and batteries for powering the systems. In addition, the aircraft may include a payload module that mates with an interface in the fuselage. The payload module may include any of a variety of payloads, including cameras, sensors, and/or radar emitters. The aircraft may be powered or unpowered, and may be very small, for example, less than on the order of 10 kg (22 pounds). The aircraft may be employed at a low cost for any of a wide variety of functions, such as surveillance, or as a decoy. The deployable surfaces of the aircraft may be configured to deploy in a pre-determined order, allowing the aircraft automatically to enter controlled flight after being launched in a tumbling mode.

  • Patent number: 7313995
Abstract: A deck-mounted inclined munitions launcher is disclosed. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment, the launcher includes a platform, two pivotally-coupled munitions canisters, and a drive system. An exhaust end of each munitions canister is movably coupled to the platform while the launch end of each canister is not coupled to the platform. A drive system engages the exhaust end of each munitions canister. The canisters lay substantially flat, side-by-side, in a pre-launch position. To raise the munitions canisters to a launch position, the drive system pulls the exhaust end of each of the canisters toward one another. Since the canisters are pivotally coupled, the pull of the drive system on the exhaust end of the canisters causes the launch end of each canister to rise in a scissoring motion.

  • Patent number: 7293492
Abstract: In a multiple projectile launcher system, cartridges are securely held within a cassette that can be loaded into a locking and priming mechanism in a base of a multiple projectile launcher. Once the cassette is loaded into the locking and priming mechanism, the cartridges in the cassette may be primed by moving the locking and priming mechanism (which is holding the cassette) such that electric igniter contacts in the launcher base are in contact with electric igniters at the priming end of each cartridge. Once the cassette is locked (thereby priming the plural cartridges held in the cassette), the cartridges may be fired singly, severally, and/or all at the same time, using an electrically initiated fire control system. The multiple projectile launcher is particularly effective in crowd and/or riot control, where the payload of the cartridges comprise non-lethal and/or less-lethal munitions, such as tear gas grenades, sting-ball grenades, flash-bang rounds, bean bags, etc.

Abstract: A system for remote tracking of a tactical missile assembly orientation during targeting and leading to launch from a platform, including a weapon station frame rotatably attached to the platform and a command launch unit attached to the weapon station frame. A launch tube assembly is pivotably attached thereon, including a launch tube in which a tactical missile is positioned prior to launch. The launch tube is replaceable with a like-configured launch tube and tactical missile. A launch tube position recognition unit is disposed proximal of the launch tube and adjacent of the weapon station frame. The position recognition unit includes a tracking and encoder device enclosed by a protective encoder member rotatably attachable between the launch tube and weapon station frame. The tracking and encoder device identifies launch tube positions and remotely relays position coordinates to the command launch unit during targeting of the missile leading to missile launch.

Abstract: The invention relates to a firing direction system for adjusting a rocket launcher, and includes a drive motor (9) that is connected via a safety brake (2-8) with a drive shaft (1) for adjusting the rocket launcher, whereby a rotation of the drive shaft (1) in a first direction effects a raising of the rocket launcher, and a rotation in the opposite direction effects a lowering of the rocket launcher, whereby the safety brake prevents a back-driving torque of the rocket launcher from effecting a rotation of the drive shaft (1) in the opposite direction. In addition, an electric motor (11) is disposed on the drive shaft (1) and is controlled is such a way that upon a rotation of the drive shaft in the first direction, the electric motor effects an additional torque of the drive shaft (1) in the first direction, and upon rotation of the drive shaft in the opposite direction effects a recovery of energy.

Abstract: A bottle rocket launcher comprises a long hollow tube barrel having an tube-axial sealing valve that has a rotary cylindrical or spherical valve member where the valve is attached at the breech end of the launcher barrel. The rocket launcher can be angled up to a near vertical position with support legs. In use, a bottle rocket can be partially inserted into the valve passageway that is held open. The flammable rocket fuse is lit and the bottle rocket is dynamically inserted by hand contact with the rocket stick into the barrel inside chamber body to a position that is beyond the valve member. The valve is rotated into a valve-closed position while the rocket fuse is burning. When the bottle rocket powder is ignited by the burning fuse, the burning exhaust gases thrusts the bottle rocket along the inside of the barrel tube and propels it into the sky in the direction that the launcher barrel is pointed.
