Patent number: 4136437Abstract: A method of mounting a potentiometer (pot) on a plate, wherein a hollow cylindrical housing appendage of the pot is positioned through a hole in the plate to the other side thereof. The rotatable shaft of the pot then projects to the said other plate side through the appendage. A washer, a jam nut and a seal nut are positioned around the appendage. A compound is then potted in contact with and around the pot housing sealing it to the plate, and around the shaft. The housing on its side of the plate is larger than the hole. However, the shaft is not primed and is therefore rotatable after potting. The plate is primed on both sides prior to potting.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1977Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventor: Lowell J. Patent number: 4109531Abstract: A pair of vertically spaced rubber diaphragm covered bellows are employed with output means to produce a DC voltage directly proportional to the movement of the free end of one bellows. The upper bellows and diaphragm are inverted from their conventional positions. A conduit connects the two bellows together. The conduit, both bellows and both diaphragms are filled with an incompressible fluid. The fixed ends of both bellows are fixed relative to each other. This arrangement may be employed with a DC voltmeter calibrated in linear measure to indicate the level of a liquid in a storage tank. In this case, one bellows is located inside of and fixed relative to the tank at the top. The other bellows is located inside the tank at the bottom and fixed relative thereto thereat. A two bellows densitometer is also provided which may be employed with or without the liquid level system.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1977Date of Patent: August 29, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventors: Victor N. Patent number: 4088022Abstract: A turbine flowmeter with an unusual radio frequency pick-up and non-magnetic, conductive turbine blades. The pickup includes a coil which is also a part of a tank circuit of an input oscillator. A phase lock loop is then employed which receives, as an input, the output of the input oscillator. When a turbine blade passes the pick-up, the input oscillator undergoes a frequency shift. Circuits connected from the phase lock loop output then produce pulses which are counted and indicated. The circuits may be constructed to cause an indicator to read in units of volume, i.e. the total volume flow through the flowmeter, if desired. The said circuits include two active filters, a Schmitt trigger, a current converter and an output circuit from the phase lock loop output.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1975Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventor: Paul Z. Patent number: 4081235Abstract: It is conventional to supply current to an electromagnet from thermally responsive means including a thermocouple near a standing pilot to hold a safety valve open. Failure of the pilot then causes the safety valve to close, shutting off all combustible gas to the system. Unfortunately, many manual valves may be shut off and turned on a short time thereafter. This permits the pilot to go out and a dangerously large amount of unburned but combustible gas to collect within the combustion chamber. This disclosure includes an interlock located between the safety and manual valves. The interlock does not permit the manual valve to be opened immediately after closure thereof. Reopening of the manual valve is permitted preferably only at or after the closure of the safety valve. Combustible gas thus cannot collect in the vicinity of the main burner if an attempt is made to close and then immediately thereafter to reopen the manual valve.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1976Date of Patent: March 28, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventor: Rutgerus Antonius van der Veer

Patent number: 4078209Abstract: A sound communication system incorporating a triangle wave generator (TWG), a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and an output circuit including one or more loudspeakers. The output circuit is connected from the output of the VCO. The output of the TWG is connected to the input of the VCO to control its frequency of oscillation. The TWG can be actuated by a horn ring switch or a momentary contact switch, either of which, when closed, grounds the TWG input and causes the TWG to oscillate. A transistor switch is connected from the TWG input and a third lead from the VCO to cut off the VCO to protect the speaker(s) from damage due to low frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1977Date of Patent: March 7, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventor: C. Patent number: 4069713Abstract: By means of sonic or ultrasonic energy, flow rate is determined as a linear function of the difference between two frequencies by taking measurements in the direction of flow and in the direction opposite thereto. Transducers are used alternately as generators and pickups. To this end, the transit time difference is determined by means of a phase detector, and the frequencies of two oscillators are readjusted in accordance with the results of the measurements. The difference frequency can be indicated and calibrated in flow rate, and the number of cycles can be counted, the flow volume being directly proportional thereto.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1976Date of Patent: January 24, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph IndustriesInventor: Gerhard G.
