  • Patent number: 5713072
Abstract: A system for deterring fraudulent cloning by a reader station of valid call-origination message parameters assigned to authorized mobile radiotelephone stations operating within a cell or other area of a cellular radiotelephone system in which valid call origination messages are initiated between the mobile stations and a fixed cell-site radiotransceiver station for that cell or area. A database containing a plurality of valid call-origination message parameter combinations assigned to the authorized mobile stations is established in the radiotelephone system. An auxiliary fraud-deterrent transmitter station transmits call origination messages containing invalid parameters in such cell or area the cellular radiotelephone system. These invalid parameters are not verifiable at the database. The reader station receives both the valid and invalid call origination messages with an inability to discern with certainty between the valid and the invalid call origination messages.

  • Patent number: 5490204
Abstract: An automated system that assesses the quality of service provided by a cellular radiotelephone system. The system uses apparatus located at a mobile station that remotely controls apparatus located at a fixed station. A cellular radiotelephone call is placed from the mobile station which is received at the fixed station. When the connection is established, commands are sent from the mobile station to the fixed station that configure and control the operation of the fixed station. Many calls between the mobile station and the fixed station are placed and received by the mobile station each under control of the mobile station. During each call, recordings are made of the progress of the call and the audio quality measurements obtained during the call from both the mobile and fixed stations perspectives.

  • Patent number: 5444428
Abstract: An integral plastic fuseholder for receiving portions of a pair of in-line electrical conductors which may be connected to a non-fused electrical adapter plug. One conductor of the pair is severed within the holder to form an open connection until the connection is completed by a flat-blade insertion fuse. A pair of female electrical terminals is located within the fuseholder with each terminal connected to a different end of the severed conductor. The fuseholder has a foldable clam-shell housing formed by a pair of foldable cover sections which are joined by a centrally disposed hinge section. The housing is opened to receive the in-line electrical conductor pair, or alternatively is folded to a closed position to retain the in-line conductor pair and to create a partially enclosed cavity which forms a fuse-insert access opening opposite the hinge section. Any inserted fuse is connected in series with the conductor terminals to complete a fused conductor connection to an adapter plug through the fuseholder.

  • Patent number: 5398276
Abstract: A manually-movable, portable, cellular-system signal-strength analyzer for measuring, recording and displaying geographically-located, downlink, cellular-communication-channel signal strengths in non-vehicular pedestrian areas and also inside buildings. The analyzer has a cellular-telephone scanning receiver housed within a backpack that is worn by a human operator who traverses the areas to be analyzed. A height-adjustable antenna mast formed from a set of telescoping tubes is fixed to the exterior of the backpack. This mast supports a self-resonant antenna of fixed length whose elevation height may be varied to determine signal-strengths at different pedestrian heights. The backpack also houses a controller. A laser rangefinder which has a built-in compass inputs data to the controller concerning the geographic locations of various points traversed by the analyzer. An arm-held computer is also connected to the controller.

  • Patent number: 5377863
Abstract: A manipulatable and detachable container clamp adapted to engage an open paint container. The clamp has an elongated body formed into a manual gripping handle and a platform support. A flared brush-cleaning and brush-support platform is fixed to the platform support so as to project away from the handle. A container-engaging clamping bracket having a pair of spaced fingers is fixed to the body with each finger facing opposite sides of the container sidewall when the bracket is seated upon the upper edge of the container so that the platform projects into the container. A manually-adjustable screw is coupled to the bracket for clamping the bracket tightly upon any container engaged by the bracket. One of the bracket fingers is preferably seated in a paint-container reinforcing groove which is commonplace in many paint containers. This seating arrangement enables the clamp to be fixedly secured to the paint container.

  • Patent number: 5376022
Abstract: An electrical coaxial jack connector adapted for electrical interconnection with a mating plug-type coaxial connector. The coaxial jack connector has an integral molded plastic body from which external connecting wires project to form a unitary cable connector. The jack-connector body is subdivided into three body sections, namely, a contact-housing section, a grip section, and a wire strain-relief section. A contact mounting board divides the contact-housing section from the grip section. A coaxial male-pin contact and a peripheral leaf-spring contact project from a front surface of the mounting board into an access cavity defined by a cylindrical wall which forms the contact-housing body section. This cylindrical wall is formed with an internal recess or groove which is located adjacent to and in alignment with the leaf-spring contact.

  • Patent number: 5289526
Abstract: A cellular system access monitor for monitoring and reporting information relating to the operation of cellular telephone systems. The monitor features a cellular telephone of current design, responding to the expanded spectrum of 832 channels. The cellular telephone communicates with a controller using a self-clocking data transmission scheme to improve the reporting and displaying of cellular system parameters, such as cellsite control-channel identification numbers and textual cellsite identification information. Additionally, the monitor employes a calibration feature for measuring and displaying accurately signal strength in decibels. System parameters are shown on a bit-mapped display.

  • Patent number: 5230641
Abstract: An electrical receptacle which has a plastic housing defining a socket lined by a tubular sleeve contact for receiving a conventional electrical adapter plug. The adapter plug has a body supporting a contact tip which is either retractable or non-retractable. This contact tip projects from an end of the adapter-plug body to mate with a central contact located at one end of the receptacle socket. The adapter plug also has another contact which projects from the periphery of the adapter-plug body to mate with the sleeve contact of the receptacle. The central contact of the receptacle is carried on a support fixed to the housing which communicates with the receptacle socket to establish electrical circuit connection with the adapter-plug contact tip in response to the insertion of the adapter plug into the socket. The central contact is spring-loaded and movable relative to its support so as to provide a retracting movement in response to the force applied by an adapter-plug contact tip.

  • Patent number: 5203471
Abstract: A detachable handle adapted to engage a container, such as a paint can, formed with a continuous sidewall which terminates in a set of top and bottom peripheral edges separated one from the other by the sidewall. The handle comprises a generally C-shaped resilient body adapted for manual holding and defining an interior generally concave surface, a pair of edge engaging fingers fixed to the interior surface of the C-shaped body with each finger separated from the other so that both container edges can be engaged by the two fingers, and an elongated camming lever having a first end pivotally attached to the interior surface of the C-shaped body, and with an opposite end loosely positioned adjacent a different interior surface of the C-shaped body. The application of a manual gripping force between the camming lever and the curved body separates the edge engaging fingers one from the other by increasing their separation bite to release a container or alternatively to engage a container.
