  • Patent number: 4939708
Abstract: Timepiece of the analog type, in which the hour hands are replaced by two coaxial disks which are split radially and bent helically and which are arranged in such a way that each passes between the leading edge and the trailing edge of the other in the direction of rotation. One disk makes one revolution in twelve hours, the other disk being retained by a stop, then three is an exchange of the disks, and a second thereafter makes one resolution in twelve hours, the first being retained. One edge of each disk thus performs, each in its turn, the function of the hour hand. The mechanism comprises a driver, which is carried by a barrel coaxial relative to the disks and which is axially movable relative to this barrel, and a retaining stop which is preferably movable axially, but without being rotatable.

  • Patent number: 4939086
Abstract: The production and use of a high-intensity red natural colorant prepared from an anthocyanin derived from the cell line of Daucus carota (carrot) is described. The production of the high-intensity red natural colorant comprises the cultivation of Daucus carota in a cell tissue culture. Carrot cells are extracted from the cell tissue culture after subculturing and a suitable growth period. The extract is then purified in order to isolate the anthocyanin found in the carrot cells. The anthocyanin is then concentrated to produce the red natural colorant of the invention. The natural colorant produced is stable over a wide pH range under various conditions. The natural colorant is useful as a coloring agent for food products, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

  • Patent number: 4939226
Abstract: Cationic paint binders based on polyether urethanes are formed by selective reaction of one NCO-group of a diisocyanate which contains NCO-groups of different reactivities with the primary hydroxyl groups of a polyhydroxypolyether in the presence of 1,4-diazabicyclo-2,2,2-octane (DABCO) as catalyst, and subsequently reacting the remaining NCO-group of the diisocyanate with a secondary amine. The binders which are largely free of low molecular basic by-products are used for formulating paints, particularly cathodically depositable electrodeposition paints, which are water-dilutable after protonation.

  • Patent number: 4934061
Abstract: Drawing boards and drawing instruments for use therewith. The surface of the board (1) has a set of parallel-running, evenly spaced magnetic poles (2) across it. Each drawing instrument has a cylinder (10) with similar parallel magnetic poles running essentially axially along it. The cylinder is freely rotatably mounted (12) and preferably held a little bit away from the board surface. The cylinder (10) preferentially orientates with its magnetic poles aligned with those (2) on the board surface. This orientation can be accurately maintained across the entire surface of the board without the use of cumbersome mechanical arrangements to ensure alignment of drawing instruments. When not required for use, the drawing instrument may simply be removed from the surface of the board. A ruler/protractor device (3) and a carriage bearing a pair of rules set at right angles are described.

  • Patent number: 4925565
Abstract: A process for treating nitrophenolic by-products contained in nitration waste water including the steps of solvent extraction, solvent and nitrophenolic residue recovery by distillation, and incineration of the nitrophenolic residue is disclosed. The extraction process involves the extraction of the nitrophenolic by-products from the nitration waste water utilizing a solvent in the presence of an acid at an elevated temperature and acidic pH. The extraction produces a nitrophenolic solvent solution which is subjected to a distillation to recover the solvent for reuse and produce a residue containing the nitrophenolic materials. The residue can be disposed of by incineration.
