  • Patent number: 4684528
Abstract: Formulations of zinc compounds with select amino acids such as glycine (aminoacetic acid) in a base material are described. The base material can be a sweetening agent such as a hard or soft candy base, a syrup, chewing gum, dentifrice, or the like. The advantage of such formulations is that the unpalatable and undesirable tastes and aftertastes of unformulated zinc compound and of zinc compounds mixed with a base material are markedly reduced and the products may be slowly dissolved in the mouth to achieve nutritional or therapeutic results. Processes for the satisfactory preparation of the formulations are set forth.

  • Patent number: 4683285
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for the production of cationic binders for pigment pastes for water-dilutable paints, particularly for cathodic electrodeposition based on low molecular oxazolidine group carrying modified epoxy compounds, and to the pastes obtained. The process is characterized in that preferably aliphatic di- or polyepoxy compounds are reacted with primary mono- and/or diamines and optionally monocarboxy compounds and that oxazolidine groups are introduced into the molecule by reaction with carbonyl compounds. The products show extremely high pigment loading capacity and an excellent performance in cathodically depositable electrodeposition paints. The products permit formation of low solvent paint systems.

  • Patent number: 4659800
Abstract: Cathodically depositable binders water-dilutable upon neutralization comprising the reaction product of amine adducts of polyglycidylethers of polyphenols having an amine value based on tertiary amine groups of between about 30 and about 130 mg KOH/g, a hydroxy value based on primary hydroxy groups of between about 20 and about 200 mg KOH/g, and an average molecular weight of from about 1000 to about 20,000 with 0.5 to 20% b.w. based on the weight of the adduct of a polyoxyalkylene glycidyl ether to provide an adduct having polyoxyalkylene segments. The introduced hydrophilic segments allow for a reduction in the degree of neutralization necessary for stability of an electrodeposition bath which favorably influences the deposition equivalent and throwing power of the binder in a cathodic electrodeposition system.

  • Patent number: 4659579
Abstract: Moist vegetables (2) undergo at least one pressing operation (3) and are introduced into a drier (9) of which the heater elements are fed with vapor recompressed by a compressor unit (20). The juice (4) from the last pressing operation acts as the cold fluid in an evaporator (5) of which the tube stack is fed by the mixture of air and vapor (10) issuing from the moist vegetables being dried. The vapor (6) produced by the evaporator (5) feeds the compressor unit (20). The concentrated juice (7) is used to re-steep the moist vegetables (2) before they enter the pressing zone (3).

  • Patent number: 4657712
Abstract: This invention relates to a humidifier which includes a multi-bladed fan which is rotated at a high speed. The blades have flow passages extending therethrough and opening out through their end tips. Liquid is supplied to the center of the fan and distributed to the radiating flow passages. The speed of the blades is such that the liquid is forced through the flow passages in the blade centrifugally so as to produce droplets at the tips of the blade. The droplets are reduced in size by the shear forces of the blade tip passing through the air. The fan maintains the end tip vortex wherein as the droplets appear at the radial ends of the blades, the droplets are drawn rearwardly around the ends of the blades tips and then back through the blades so as to be further reduced in size by shear forces. The rate of fog production is controlled by a flow meter.

  • Patent number: 4652353
Abstract: A process for producing multiple-coat paint systems is described wherein a cathodically electro-depositable primer containing thermically polymerizable synthetic resins as the binder, immediately prior to the application of an additional coating, is irradiated with ionizing irradiation for a period of from one to 20 seconds. The irradiation for the short period of time cures the primer so that subsequent coatings applied to the primer do not detrimentally affect the primer coating or the finished paint system.

  • Patent number: 4649089
Abstract: The invention provides an improved casing material for locating, at door edges a brush-like material for preventing the passage of cold smoke, and an intumescent material which expands to obstruct. A tubular body has a slot for the bristles which project outwardly from a brush-base located inside the casing, and an internal housing for the brush base isolates the slot from an interior portion of the body. A second slot is provided opposite the first slot. The construction of the body is such that the slots can be opened locally so that the brush base can be fitted through the first slot and the intumescent material may be passed, in strip form, through the second slot.
