  • Patent number: 6519979
Abstract: A non-elastic yarn is knitted with a core spun elastomeric yarn in a ratio of ends of non-elastic yarn to ends of core spun elastomeric greater than 2:1 to create a knitted fabric having a ridged surface that permits air to pass between the ridges.

  • Patent number: 6486100
Abstract: A multi-domained bulk REBa2CU3Ox with low-angle domain boundaries which resemble a quasi-single domained material and a method for producing the same comprising arranging multiple seeds, which can be small single crystals, single domained melt-textured REBa2CU3Ox pieces, textured substrates comprises of grains with low misorientation angles, or thick film REBa2CU3Ox deposited on such textured substrate, such seeds being tailored for various REBa2CU3Ox compounds, in specific pattern and relative seed orientations on a superconductor precursor material which may be placed in contact with a porous substrate so as to reduce the amount of liquid phase in the melt. Because seeds can be arranged in virtually any pattern, high quality REBa2CU3Ox elements of virtually unlimited size and complex geometry can be fabricated.

  • Patent number: 6469298
Abstract: An ion trap for mass spectrometric chemical analysis of ions is delineated. The ion trap includes a central electrode having an aperture; a pair of insulators, each having an aperture; a pair of end cap electrodes, each having an aperture; a first electronic signal source coupled to the central electrode; a second electronic signal source coupled to the end cap electrodes. The central electrode, insulators, and end cap electrodes are united in a sandwich construction where their respective apertures are coaxially aligned and symmetric about an axis to form a partially enclosed cavity having an effective radius r0 and an effective length 2z0, wherein r0 and/or z0 are less than 1.0 mm, and a ratio z0/r0 is greater than 0.83.

  • Patent number: 6456096
Abstract: A monolithic sensor includes a reference channel and at least one sensing channel. Each sensing channel has an oscillator and a counter driven by the oscillator. The reference channel and the at least one sensing channel being formed integrally with a substrate and intimately nested with one another on the substrate. Thus, the oscillator and the counter have matched component values and temperature coefficients. A frequency determining component of the sensing oscillator is formed integrally with the substrate and has an impedance parameter which varies with an environmental parameter to be measured by the sensor. A gating control is responsive to an output signal generated by the reference channel, for terminating counting in the at least one sensing channel at an output count, whereby the output count is indicative of the environmental parameter, and successive ones of the output counts are indicative of changes in the environmental parameter.

  • Patent number: 6392962
Abstract: A method to aid the treatment of sleeping disorders that are aggravated by an insomniac's underestimation of total sleep time and sleep efficiency, and overestimation of time necessary to fall asleep. The method includes an observation of the beginning of rest time and self-actuated measurement of the time necessary to fall asleep. The insomniac is made aware of the elapsed wake time and total sleep time upon wakening by further observing the time of awaking and the elapsed wake time as recorded on a wrist watch or other device. The apparatus can include a wrist mounted timer with a hand mounted actuator that stops timing when the insomniac falls asleep and disengages contact with the actuator.

  • Patent number: 6358163
Abstract: A durable batting tee utilizes an adjustable compression nut to provide a range of adjustable heights for extensible vertical pipes, and an inverted flexible cone atop the vertical pipes upon which a baseball is placed for hitting, such that the compression nut will maintain the rubber cone at a predetermined height, and the flexible cone will maintain its integrity throughout a lifetime of repeated strikes with a baseball bat. The baseplate is dimensioned and weighted to hold the tee upright during normal use, and to permit tipping when subjected to errant swings of a bat.

  • Patent number: 6235402
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming a biaxially textured buffer layer on a biaxially oriented metal substrate by using a sol-gel coating technique followed by pyrolyzing/annealing in a reducing atmosphere. This method is advantageous for providing substrates for depositing electronically active materials thereon.
