  • Patent number: 4958442
Abstract: For a measuring device, a boom, rotatable arm, guide arm and cross beam form a parallel crank drive which is mounted so as to be swivelable about the vertical axis of a supporting column. A clamping device for the rotatable arm makes it possible to use only a single drive for both a coarse swivel motion and a precision swivel motion for precision adjustment in order to home in on the measuring position. Measuring probes are attached to measuring support bars that are mounted on the cross beam, and are movable in vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 4953389
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining the surface tension between a gas and a liquid, and wherein the surface tension of a film established on the surface of a bubble in a medium may be calculated. A liquid medium such as an aqueous medium is provided in a chamber. The container is constructed so that an air bubble may be formed in the liquid medium in the chamber and a film of a material, such as a surfactant material, can then be formed at the air-liquid interface. The chamber is also constructed so that the pressure of the liquid medium may be varied. On increasing the pressure of the liquid medium, the bubble volume and its surface area are reduced. Thus, the interfacial film is compressed, and alternatively, when the pressure of the liquid medium is reduced, the film is expanded by the expanding of the bubble. The chamber provides a complete enclosure so that the liquid medium and the surfactant are not exposed to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4934400
Abstract: An irrigation control system includes a soil moisture sensor (S) that controls the common lines of various irrigation valves (VA) being controlled by a conventional irrigation time based controller (TC). The sensor is in a first zone of primarily shallow rooted plants. A timer (TR) is activated whenever the soil moisture sensor allows the first zone to be watered. The timer (TR) increments a counter (CR) which closes after a pre-set number of irrigation cycles of the first zone having been completed. When the counter (CR) close contacts (C), then the irrigation valves feeding a second zone of primarily deep rooted plants are activated.

  • Patent number: 4930437
Abstract: Formed on the doctor element, between a chamber mouth and the paper web respectively the backing roll supporting it, is an application space which relative to the doctor element, that is, on the entrance side of the paper web, is defined by a baffle plate and kept at a pressure which exceeds atmospheric pressure. Between the baffle plate, this application space 2 is subdivided toward the doctor element (coating blade) 1, creating between the end of the vane 2 and the coating blade 1 a gap whose width ranges between 4 mm and 10 mm. This makes it possible to produce a flawless coating application also in the case of very light basis application weights.

  • Patent number: 4925253
Abstract: An automatic method for preventing wheel skidding during braking and acceleration is disclosed, in which an instantaneous rotational wheel speed is sensed and an instantaneous absolute speed variation is calculated therefrom. During braking, the brake is released automatically when rotational speed either reduces so that speed variation is greater than a predetermined maximum permissible value, or when rotational speed approaches zero with the vehicle still moving. The brake is applied during braking when rotational speed increases to a predetermined time-varying value after brake release. During acceleration, the brake is applied when rotational speed increases so that speed variation is greater than the aforementioned maximum permissible value, and is released when rotational speed falls to a predetermined time-varying value after the brake application. The brake remains unaffected when speed variation is less than the maximum permissible value.
