  • Patent number: 5113878
Abstract: A cigarette-holder is disclosed which is provided with a filter member as well as with a device for regulating draught, which device allows the amount of nicotine inhaled to be progressively reduced. The device comprises a small metallic pipe that holds, on one end, the cigarette. The pipe is inserted with the opposite end into the cigarette-holder containing a filter member. The filter member is made up of a small hollow cylinder of diameter less than the pipe diameter, and it obstructs the smoke flow into the cigarette-holder by leaving just a small through-hole and delimits an annular space wherein smoke becomes further cooled before being inhaled. The filter is also made up of a bowl-like plugging member that reduces the outlet cross section of the holder. The bottom of the bowl-like plugging member faces the end of the pipe containing the cigarette. The plugging member has cuts in its side wall and a peg-like terminal portion in its bottom.

  • Patent number: 5091649
Abstract: The invention relates to a gas detector for measuring one or more hydrocarbons or some other gas having its infrared absorption spectrum partially or entirely overlapping with water and, in addition, carbon dioxide and/or nitrogen oxide. The gas detector comprises a radiation source (1), a measuring chamber (3), a reference chamber (4), the electromagnetic radiation coming from the radiation source passing through said chambers, and a radiation detector (5). A beam passing from radiation source (1) both to measuring chamber (3) and to reference chamber (4) and from these chambers further to detector (5) travels in a space (14) which is provided with both a carbon-dioxide removing material (11) and a water-removing material (12). The invention relates also to a method for absorbing the carbon dioxide contained in said gas detector space (14) or in a part of this space into a carbon-dioxide removing material (11) and for absorbing the water into a water-removing material (12).

  • Patent number: 4996477
Abstract: An on-site test unit is for an electric motor having an electronic timer having motor control contacts and a parallel capacitor completing a power connection with the opposite power connection being common. The test unit includes a portable housing with a fused power cable and an output connector. A switch, with a parallel test lamp, connects the power cable to connector output terminals. An internal test load lamp in parallel with a capacitor is connected in series to a control terminal and to a power terminal. A selection switch selectively supplies power to the terminals. For testing, the normal power supply is disconnected and the common connection to the motor and timer is opened. The connector may include a plurality of leads with terminal clips or releasable plug-in connectors in the motor and test unit. A dummy connector provides normal motor operation. In a motor test, the motor is connected by the selection switch to the power switch and cable.
