  • Patent number: 6200650
Abstract: Processes for drying primer coating compositions applied to a surface of a substrate are provided in which the primer coating composition, if a liquid or powder slurry, is exposed to low velocity air having a temperature ranging from about 10° C. to about 50° C. for a period of at least about 30 seconds to volatilize at least a portion of volatile material from the liquid primer coating composition. Next, infrared radiation and low velocity warm air are applied simultaneously to the primer coating composition (liquid, powder slurry or powder) for a period of at least about 1 minute during which the temperature of the substrate is increased at a rate ranging from about 0.2° C. per second to about 2° C. per second to achieve a peak substrate temperature of the substrate ranging from about 30° C. to about 120° C.

  • Patent number: 6146706
Abstract: A liquid coating composition has: from about 5 to 45 percent by weight of resin solids of substantially saturated polyhydroxylated polydiene polymer having terminal hydroxyl groups; from about 10 to 50 percent by weight of resin solids of crosslinking material; from about 5 to 85 percent by weight of resin solids of polymeric film forming resin; and solvent. The solvent has at least 5 percent by weight of the solvent composition consisting of water; and/or at least one organic solvent having Hansen Solubility Parameters Sp.sub.o from about 8.0 to 10.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.1/2, Sp.sub.h from about 0.5 to 5.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.1/2 ; and Sp.sub.p from about 0.2 to 3.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.1/2 ; and/or mixtures thereof. The liquid coating composition can be solvent-based or aqueous-based and can additionally contain at least one pigment.

  • Patent number: 6090860
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of separating a coating from a base plastic in a multilayered structure, comprising the steps of (A) providing the multilayered structure comprising at least a coating and a base plastic; (B) contacting the multilayered structure with a mixture comprising (i) a major amount of water, (ii) at least one basic compound or acid compound, (iii) at least one lifting agent, and (iv) at least one accelerator; and (C) separating the coating from the base plastic. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a separating composition containing a major amount of water, at least one basic compound or acid compound, at least one lifting agent, and at least one accelerator. The inventive methods and compositions overcome numerous problems in the art by enabling the efficient recycling of coated polymer articles whereby clear and/or colorless recycled polymers may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6051314
Abstract: The present invention provides aqueous secondary coating compositions adapted to coat a sized fiber strand, the compositions including a urethane-containing polymer and a blend of a halogenated vinyl polymer and an elastomeric polymer. Another aspect of the present invention is a generally tubular assembly having a reinforcement coated with a primary layer of a sizing composition including a fiber lubricant which provides the assembly with an electrical resistance of greater than about 750 megaohms per 152.+-.13 millimeters of length of the assembly and a secondary layer including a halogenated vinyl homopolymer and a urethane-containing polymer. Another aspect of the present invention is a fiber strand formed from a thermoplastic or thermosetting material having a primary layer including a halogenated vinyl homopolymer and a urethane-containing polymer. The present invention also includes strands coated with the above-discussed coatings and polymeric composites and assemblies reinforced with the same.
