Abstract: A synchronous AM detector and processor requiring a reduced number of external components and fewer integrated circuit pins comprises an audio processor having a first filter operation controlled by a control voltage and an AM stereo decoder including a lock detector and a phase locked loop having a second filter operation controlled by the control voltage. A single control node is coupled to the audio processor and the phase locked loop, the control node providing the control voltage for the audio processor and the phase locked loop. The voltage at the control node is biased normally high, capable of being pulled low by the audio processing circuit and capable of being pulled low by the lock detector. An RC circuit decays the rise time of the control voltage at the control node after the control voltage has been pulled low. Circuitry is added to control the first filter operation of the audio processing circuitry responsive to the control voltage at the control node.

Abstract: A method and apparatus disclosed provide dynamic prediction of re-circulated exhaust gas content in an engine intake manifold. An engine-controller combination, comprises a vehicle engine and an exhaust gas re-circulation valve providing re-circulation of engine exhaust gas. Several sensors determine measures of a set of engine parameters and provide measurement signals indicative of the measures. A microprocessor control unit receives the measurement signals, (ii) predicts future values of MAP and P.sub.o, where MAP represents an absolute pressure of an engine intake manifold and where P.sub.o represents a new air partial pressure of the engine intake manifold, and (iii) controls the vehicle engine in response to the predicted future values of MAP and P.sub.o.

Abstract: A door seal apparatus for a laser operating station, comprises a fixed wall with an opening, a turn table device with a turn table wall positioned within the opening, the turn table device having at least two positions in which the turn table wall is substantially parallel and coplanar with the fixed wall, with a gap existing between the fixed wall and turn table wall, cylinders for driving a first plate in a first direction over a first portion of the gap, and a cam plate for operationally engaging the first plate to a second plate and for driving the second plate in a second direction over a second portion of the gap as the first plate is driven in a first direction, wherein the first and second plates prevent direct light leaks from the first and second portions of the gap.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing displays including a method for determining color tolerances for the displays is set forth. The method comprises the the steps of (i) comparing the display color space data to reference data generally adapted to the size and spatial characteristics of the display, (ii) developing a recommended color value tolerance for the color space data in response to the comparison, and (iii) developing, independent of the recommended color value tolerance, a recommended luminance value tolerance in response to the color space data.
Abstract: A vehicle indicator system is set forth for a vehicle that has first and second instrumentation indicator lamps for indicating the condition of first and second vehicle systems. Instead of the first indicator lamp having a backup lamp in case the first indicator lamp burns out, the second indicator lamp serves a dual purpose as the backup lamp for the first indicator lamp.
Abstract: For a trip odometer comprising a pinion carrier and a pinion spring mounted to the pinion carrier, the improvement provided includes, on the pinion carrier, a mating surface having a thickness, two protruding locators and an underside surface, wherein each locator has a retention ramp operatively associated with the pinion spring to retain the pinion spring in a secured position.
Abstract: A control system for electric power steering develops a desired operator exerted steering torque command independent of operator exerted torque, compares that command to a measure of actual operator exerted steering torque and controls an electric motor providing electric power steering assist to minimize the difference between the desired operator exerted steering torque command and the actual operator exerted steering torque.

Abstract: A telltale is sufficiently small and sufficiently bright for use in a head-up display such that the image of the telltale is projected of the combiner, e.g., the vehicle front windshield, and is clearly visible to the vehicle operator, even on bright sunny days. The apparatus includes a housing and a light source. The housing has an inner reflective surface with a focal point outside the housing and an aperture located between the reflective surface and the focal point. A graphics plate is mounted in the aperture. The telltale is highly emissive when light from the light source reflects off of the inner surface and through the aperture.
Abstract: An engine--powertrain--controller combination includes a microprocessor control unit which predicts a future value of an engine state and uses that predicted value in engine control functions for improved control of the engine--powertrain in such areas as air-fuel ratio control, control of the engine during engine idle, and engine spark timing control.
Abstract: An armature and shaft assembly useful in gauges and stepper motors is encapsulated for ease in manufacture and diversity of application, the capsule being suitable for sealing in dampening fluids and for allowing magnetization of the armature after assembly of the capsule, providing protection against contamination by dust, etc.
