Abstract: An additive for reducing water loss from cement comprising a tetrapolymer, base, an electrolyte, at least one surfactant, and water is disclosed. A process for producing cement slurries with improved water loss properties, as well as an improved method for cementing gas and oil wells is also disclosed.
Abstract: Catalytic processes for the synthesis of thionocarbamates by contacting xanthates, and amines, especially primary amines in the presence of at least one suitable catalyst. Suitable catalysts for these processes include finely divided metallic catalysts such as suspended nickel and precious metal(s); for example, Raney Nickel or platinum/palladium on carbon support. Reaction is carried out at a most preferred temperature of from about 70.degree. C. to about 80.degree. C. and for about 8 hours to about 12 hours for example.
Abstract: An acid-sulfolane catalyzed process of preparing cyclic alkylated compounds such as indanes by reacting a monovinyl aromatic compound with an olefinic compound, such reaction further improved by the addition of a lanthanide oxide, or Group VI A elements and/or oxides or a mixture of such oxides.
Abstract: There are provided compositions comprising polyethylene terephthalate and aliphatic polyester with varying combinations of fillers. Molded samples made with these compositions variously have low warpage, good colorability, or economic advantages while retaining other good physical and mechanical properties. One group of compositions exhibits good spiral glow properties and is thus suitable for encapsulation of electronic circuitry.
Abstract: Use of strong acidic materials, such as molecular sieves, reduces the level of t-butyl alcohol (TBA) produced during the visbreaking of polyolefins.
Abstract: Continuous glass fiber reinforced composites are made by pultruding the fibers with mixtures of certain silanes and thermoplastic resin in which the silanes have adsorbed onto the thermoplastic resin.

Abstract: A process using N-alkylpyrrolidone solvents, such as N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), for the preparation of aromatic thiols, from the reaction of aryl halides and alkali metal alkanethiolate. This process produces aromatic thiols in higher yields and purity.
Abstract: A process for separating and recovering minerals, such as molybdenum or graphite, from ores with which they occur by addition of an amino mercaptothiadiazole to an ore flotation process.
Abstract: A method for burning a fuel, containing chemically bound nitrogen, in a two-stage, rich-lean combustion process, including: introducing the fuel and at least one stream of primary air into a primary combustion region at a fuel-air ratio above the stoichiometric ratio and in a manner to intimately mix the fuel and air and establish a stabilized flame adjacent the upstream end of the primary combustion region, maintaining the flame in the primary combustion region for a period of time sufficient to produce a combustion product mixture containing less than a predetermined amount of NO.sub.x pollutants and abruptly terminating the primary combustion region while introducing at least one stream of secondary air into the secondary region in an amount sufficient to reduce the overall fuel-air ratio below the stoichiometric ratio and in a manner to prevent backflow of the secondary air into the primary combustion region.

Abstract: Density and flexural modulus of olefin polymers can be controlled using a chromium catalyst on a iron and aluminum phosphate and/or polyphosphate gel base.
Abstract: Ethylene polymer is particularly suitable for the production of tough film is produced under slurry conditions using a fluorided aluminophosphate support and a reaction temperature within the range of 93.degree. to 107.degree. C. in the presence of hydrogen and a small amount of trialkyl boron cocatalyst wherein said aluminophosphate has a phosphorous to aluminum ratio within the very narrow range of 0.15 to 0.4 and wherein said aluminophosphate carrying chromium catalyst is being activated at a temperature within the range of 482.degree. to 704.degree. C. The resulting film is not only substantially superior to film made from the best of the readily available commercial resins but is also better than film made from polymers using a similar catalyst system without the specific combination of parameters of this invention.

Abstract: Olefin polymerization catalysts are described which are based on solid inorganic oxides (such as silica) and polychromium complexes (such as octakis(.mu.-trimethylsilylmethyl)tetrachromium(II)). Linear low density ethylene homopolymers with specific short chain branching as well as polymerization processes to make these polymers using the specific catalyst described are also disclosed.
