  • Patent number: 8192532
Abstract: A fuel tank safety system includes a heat exchanger in flow communication with a cabin conditioning system, a blower configured to withdraw a quantity of ullage gas from a vehicle fuel tank for routing through the heat exchanger, and conduit interconnecting the fuel tank, the blower, and the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is configured to reduce a temperature of the ullage gas using cooling providing by the cabin conditioning system and thus reduce the fuel content (or fuel-air ratio) of the ullage below threshold required for combustion.

  • Patent number: 8192248
Abstract: A wafer polishing apparatus has a base and a turntable having a polishing pad thereon and mounted on the base for rotation of the turntable and polishing pad relative to the base about an axis perpendicular to the turntable and polishing pad. The polishing pad includes a work surface engageable with a front surface of a wafer for polishing the front surface of the wafer. A drive mechanism is mounted on the base for imparting rotational motion about an axis substantially parallel to the axis of the turntable. A polishing head is connected to the drive mechanism for driving rotation of the polishing head. The polishing head has a pressure plate adapted to hold the wafer for engaging the front surface of the wafer with the work surface of the polishing pad. The pressure plate has a generally planar position and is selectively movable from the planar position to a convex position and to a concave position.

  • Patent number: 7290386
Abstract: A method for assembling a gas turbine engine that includes providing a low-pressure turbine inner rotor that includes a first plurality of turbine blade rows configured to rotate in a first direction, and rotatably coupling a low-pressure turbine outer rotor to the inner rotor, wherein the outer rotor includes a second plurality of turbine blade rows that are configured to rotate in a second direction that is opposite the first rotational direction of the inner rotor and such that at least one of the second plurality of turbine blade rows is coupled axially forward of the first plurality of turbine blade rows.

  • Patent number: 6405127
Abstract: A system for determining a locomotive within a railyard includes a base station, a base station receiver that receives location data pertaining to the base station location, a mobile receiver that receives location data pertaining to the location of locomotive, and a computer. The mobile receiver utilizes data from a group of satellites that are a subset of the satellite constellation used to obtain base station location data. The computer tracks base station location data and computes a position error for the base station. The computer applies the error to a locomotive estimated position resulting in an accurate locomotive location.
