  • Patent number: 8267346
Abstract: A spool assembly has a central cylindrical barrel or tube portion formed from a substantially rectangular planar material, such as thin-gauge sheet aluminum or tin-plated steel, with beveled corners. The formation of the barrel from the substantially rectangular planar material results in a seam with shallow V-notches of the seams at the opposite ends of the barrel. A circular flange sub assembly is attached to each end of the barrel and extends radially outwardly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the barrel. Each flange sub assembly comprises an outer flange and an inner flange core joined by an annular ring or curl that defines a circular hub recess or cavity for receiving the respective end of the barrel. A portion of the seam at the end of the barrel is secured within the circular hub recess or cavity; whereby the flanges are keyed onto the ends of the barrel, thereby preventing circumferential slippage of the flanges on the barrel.

  • Patent number: 8221710
Abstract: Methods for recovering base metals, including, among other metals, molybdenum and nickel, from metal sulfides containing a Group VIB metal and a Group VIII metal. Generally, the methods comprise: contacting metal sulfides with a leaching solution containing ammonia and air to dissolve the metals into the leaching solution, forming a slurry containing soluble complexes of the metals, ammonium sulphate and solid residue containing ammonium metavanadate and any carbonaceous materials. The solid residue containing ammonium metavanadate and carbonaceous materials is then separated from the slurry and metal complexes are precipitated from the slurry by adjusting the pH. A second slurry may be formed comprising a second solid residue and a primary filtrate comprising ammonium sulfate solution that is substantially free of metals.

  • Patent number: 8114821
Abstract: The production of solid lubricant agglomerates by combining solid lubricant powder, an inorganic binder, other fillers if optionally desired, and a liquid to form a mixture, and driving off the liquid to form dry agglomerates which are subsequently classified by size or milled and classified by size to yield agglomerates of a desired size range. These agglomerates are then treated to stabilize the binder, thereby strengthening the binder and rendering it nondispersible in the liquid. The undesired size ranges can be readily recycled because the agglomerates with untreated binder can be reprocessed, thereby promoting high recovery rates.
