  • Patent number: 4381614
Abstract: A calendar utilizes an existing relationship binding together all dates, past and future, in relation to any starting date. The constant relationship between days of the week, months of the year, and numbers enables the user of the calendar without resorting to calculation to find and display any other date not known in advance by simple manipulation of moving components of the calendar. For any given date as a reference point, one may determine, for example, the day of the week of any past or future date without prior knowledge or calculation over the full range of dates encompassed by the calendar.

  • Patent number: 4378214
Abstract: A multi-pocketed washable fabric body portion is employed with several selective reversible fabric strips each having fastener components for engagement with mating fastener components on the body portion. The strips carry colors, shapes, alpha-numeric indicia and material textures requiring recognition by a child. Groups of fabric elements having colors, shapes, indicia and textures to match up with the strips are provided, and a child, after sorting the fabric elements, inserts them in the pockets of the body portion which are positioned adjacent to recognized colors, shapes, indicia or textures on the strips.

  • Patent number: 4378285
Abstract: A simplified, safe, fast and economical method of refining gold and a versatile apparatus for practicing the method are disclosed. The process and the apparatus are ideally suited for reclaiming substantially pure gold from gold jewelry and gold alloy scrap. Gold alloy to be refined is inquarted with a non-ferrous metal or metal alloy and the resulting gold alloy is cast into slab anodes which are suspended in an electrolytic cell containing a mild nitric acid solution as the electrolyte. The cell includes a stainless steel container cathode to retain gold mud or slime precipitated from the slab anode during the electrolytic process. If platinum and/or palladium are present in the gold alloy to be refined inquartation with silver is carried out, and these platinum metals are dissolved in the electrolyte solution. If iridium or any other platinum metals are present in the gold alloy to be refined, they will remain in the resulting gold mud and subsequent treatment with aqua regia is necessary.

  • Patent number: 4375142
Abstract: Thin gage pre-creased and pre-punched sheet aluminum is cut to length from a supply roll on the job site where light fixtures are recessed in a ceiling containing combustible insulating material. The thin sheet metal is readily formed into a guard or dam of the necessary size and shape and placed around the recessed light fixture to prevent the insulation material from coming into contact therewith. Bendable tabs along one edge of the sheet material form bottom anchoring elements on the guard which can be stapled to the ceiling structure. The guard or dam is held in its erected form by screws or other fasteners engaging in the pre-punched openings of the sheet material. The guard is open from top to bottom and a generous air space is provided between the side wall of the guard and the light fixture.

  • Patent number: 4375295
Abstract: The commonplace laterally collapsible wheelchair is rendered more convenient and versatile by the addition thereto of several add-on attachments which can be readily installed by the purchaser of the chair at minimum cost and without structural alteration of the basic wheelchair. One or more of the attachments can be sold in "do-it-yourself" kits. The attachments include a chair width adjustment, curb climbing wheels, a quick removable seat back, wheel spoke protectors and a front wheel adjuster to compensate for inclines during use of the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 4372243
Abstract: A substantially level tray-like barrier is suspended from the stern of a motorboat somewhat above water level and below the frame of an outboard motor to intercept tools or engine parts which may be dropped by a mechanic working on the engine from a position in the stern of the boat to thereby prevent loss of expensive tools and parts in the water. The flexible barrier body of the device adjusts snugly around the outboard motor frame regardless of the size of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4368795
Abstract: A safety automobile is reduced in width compared to conventional vehicles and tapers forwardly to nearly a point to minimize head-on collision danger and provide lateral deflection of the vehicle to left or right on striking an obstruction. A dual power system is provided for maximum economy. A rear wheel electric drive is used for short range in-town operation and a front wheel internal combustion engine drive is employed for long range travel. The two drives are independent and can be employed simultaneously in heavy weather or in off-road situations.

  • Patent number: 4368097
Abstract: Peripherally contacting applicator and fountain rolls of a glue pot are mounted on individual pivots and are journaled on support yokes which are swingable toward and away from conveyed containers on a linear path adjacent to one side of the glue pot. The swinging of the two yokes and their supported applicator and fountain rolls is under control of two independent screw adjustment shafts having swiveled connections with the glue pot and yokes. The arrangement enables the application of glue to containers with and without recessed label receiving surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4366941
Abstract: Metal or plastic ice cube trays have flat lids hinged along one edge to facilitate emptying ice cubes in an orderly manner when the tray is inverted and held under running water. The trays are stackable and have support legs of sufficient length to hold the ice cube compartments of each tray spaced from the lid of the next underlying tray to avoid a freezing bond between trays. The tray lids have corner notches which receive and help to position said legs when the trays are stacked.

  • Patent number: 4360039
Abstract: A leakproof valve has a valve housing which consists of an upper portion and a lower portion each connectable to a conduit. Between these portions there is a communication which has a conical valve seat with two sealing rings of different diameters. Two outer cone parts in a three-way divided valve cone cooperate with the sealing rings of the valve seat for forming double seals betwen the upper and lower portions of the valve housing. The third cone part is located between and movable with respect to the two oute cone parts. On closure of the communication, the third cone part will substantially abut against the seat between the sealing rings such that no cavity is formed here. A subsequent shifting of the third cone part with respect to the two outer cone parts opens a communication from the region between the seals to a bleeder outlet.

  • Patent number: 4358414
Abstract: An air-fuel mixture is delivered at a certain predetermined velocity through a pressure-regulated gate to a dual screen atomizer consisting of a first comparatively coarse mesh screen in contact with a finer mesh screen close to the throat of the gate. The liquid fuel is atomized to uniform size droplets in the small micron range and a homogeneous charge is created in an enlarged plenum downstream from the dual screen atomizer. Pressure in the downstream plenum is reduced in comparison to the pressure existing in the fuel mixture delivery passage upstream from the gate.

  • Patent number: 4354637
Abstract: Oppositely turning continuously driven front and rear traction wheels are carried on a common frame which is rockable on a transverse axis with respect to wide stance carriage wheels. A hose reel located centrally on the rockable frame is driven in rotation about a vertical axis by a power take-off from the drive of the traction wheels. A reversing weight is held by gravity in a first operative position to depress one traction wheel while elevating the other traction wheel. Following contact with an obstruction, the weight is dislodged and slides to a second operative position for depressing the other traction wheel and elevating the previously depressed traction wheel.

  • Patent number: 4354480
Abstract: An efficient heating unit for ready installation in any standard fireplace includes a refractory lined fire box contained within an outer shell to form a heat exchanger between hot gaseous fuel combustion products and living space air entering the jacket space between the walls of the fire box and the outer shell in a continuous convection cycle. Heated air re-enters the living space through a grill above the fire box and fire box flue maze. The flue maze or manifold forms a radiator of great surface area which projects into the living space immediately below the heated air grill and the maze is vented into the chimney by two non-adjustable and one adjustable vents which are sealed from the air passages of the heat exchanger. Lockable and adjustably vented doors at the front of the fire box are provided. A three piece face plate formed of thin metal having thermal contact with both the fire box and heat exchanger shell maximizes heat radiation into the living space.
