  • Patent number: 8348090
Abstract: A bulk storage container includes a tank with a “full drain” outlet, and a coupler attached to the outlet, in which the full drain outlet and coupler utilize a metal-on-metal threaded connection to create a fluid-tight seal therebetween. The polymer coupler includes a metal insert with internal threads, and the tank includes a metal insert with external threads corresponding to the internal threads of the coupler insert. The metal inserts are integrally molded within the walls of the tank and coupler, respectively. Advantageously, the threaded metal inserts provide a rigid structural connection between the tank and coupler that is highly durable and leak resistant. In addition to the threaded fluid-tight seal, a shoulder of the coupler abuts a corresponding face formed on the tank, with a gasket between the shoulder and face to provide a secondary seal.

  • Patent number: 8344319
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a novel system and method for evaporating and ionizing compounds comprising an LIAD source and an ionization source that operates at atmospheric pressure. This system is readily adaptable for use with most commercially available mass spectrometers. Ionization sources include Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization sources (APCI) and Atmospheric Pressure Photo Ionization (APPI) sources. The ionization sources are positioned such that the analyte desorbing from the surface of the LIAD is fed into the ion stream produced by the ionization source and ionized analyte and ionized fragments of the analyte are fed into the sample inlet of a mass spectrometer. These systems allow for the mass spectrometric analysis of non-polar compounds that lack readily ionizable functional groups, such as saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons and compounds with medium to low polarity, as well as hydrocarbon mixtures, such as petroleum.

  • Patent number: 8342778
Abstract: A vibratory pile driver configured to insert curved sheet pile beneath a conduit by rotating the pile driver about a fixed pivot element to advance the curved sheet pile along a fixed arc. In one exemplary embodiment, the distance between the fixed pivot element and the clamps that secured the curved sheet pile to the pile driver is the same as the radius of curvature of the curved sheet pile. In another exemplary embodiment, when the curved sheet pile is secured to the pile driver by the clamps, the center of the radius of curvature of the curved sheet pile lies substantially on the rotational axis of the fixed pivot element. In this embodiment, the vibratory pile driver may be rotated about the fixed pivot element to advance the curved sheet pile along an arc having curvature substantially identical to the radius of curvature of the curved sheet pile.

  • Patent number: 8340761
Abstract: Methods and devices for treating a blockage in the coronary arterial system are provided. Some blockages in the coronary arterial system restrict the blood flow to a portion of the heart, causing ischemia or infarction. Such blockages may be treated by displacing, removing and/or breaking up the blockage, which allows blood to reperfuse into the infarcted portion of the heart. Before, during, and/or after the reperfusion, cardioprotective pacing is provided to the heart. The devices have multiple electrodes in order to provide multiple locations at which the cardioprotective pacing may be delivered. The devices are adapted to deliver cardioprotective pacing to the heart via the electrode that results in a relatively high level of dyssynchrony of the heart.

  • Patent number: 8337240
Abstract: The present invention relates to high-current plug-in connectors, in particular to unipolar high-current plug-in connectors for wind turbine generator systems, which can be arranged beside one another in a space-saving manner and can also meet high requirements on the current-carrying capacity. According to the invention, this is achieved in that cross-sections of which the longitudinal extent exceeds the transverse extent are selected for the plug-in and coupling contact. This means that the dimension in the transverse direction can be restricted and simultaneously the cable cross-section and the contact surface required from an electrical point of view are provided by the increased longitudinal extent. Moreover, the plug and the coupling comprise a visible mechanical coding, which prevents accidental reversal of the polarity of adjacently arranged cables.

  • Patent number: 8338118
Abstract: The invention relates to processes and devices for detecting an analyte in a sample by fluorescence measurement of a fluorophore, wherein the detection medium which contains a fluorophore or a precursor of the fluorophore is admixed with an absorber whose absorbance spectrum superimposes the fluorescence excitation range of the fluorophore. The system consisting of the fluorophore and the absorber, which is produced in the detection medium, has an altered effective fluorescence excitation range with an altered fluorescence excitation maximum. Illumination with fluorescence excitation light can take place within the range of this altered excitation maximum. The measured signal obtained from determining fluorescence emission exhibits only low dependence on the wavelength of the excitation light.
