  • Patent number: 8323714
Abstract: Shown herein is the use of crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin as a trap for removing cholesterol. The crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin is prepared by crosslinking beta-cyclodextrin in the presence of a crosslinking agent. Treatment with the crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin results in cholesterol-depleted foods. After application to foods, the crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin which traps cholesterol therein can be readily regenerated with organic solvents. The crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin can be applied to almost all cholesterol-containing foods, such as dairy products, meat products, and egg products, with excellent cholesterol removal rates.

  • Patent number: 8326020
Abstract: Provided is a structural light based three-dimensional depth imaging method and system using signal separation coding and error correction thereof capable of detecting, removing and correcting corresponding errors between a projection apparatus and an image photographing apparatus caused by phenomena such as reflection on an object surface, blurring by a focus, and so on, using geometrical constraints between the projection apparatus and the image photographing apparatus. Here, the projection apparatus projects light, and the image photographing apparatus obtains the light. The depth imaging method includes projecting light from a projection apparatus, obtaining the light using an image photographing apparatus, and measuring a distance or a three-dimensional depth image. Therefore, it is possible to provide a structural light based three-dimensional depth imaging method and system using geometrical conditions capable of precisely obtaining three-dimensional depth information of target environment.

  • Patent number: 8318909
Abstract: Based on the discovery of the nucleotide and amino acid differences which distinguish the Gova and Govb allelic forms of the membrane glycoprotein CD109, and which comprise the biallelic Gov platelet alloantigen system, compositions and methods are provided for determining the Gov genotype and phenotype of individuals. Also provided, on the basis of this discovery, are compositions and methods for treating disorders associated with Gov alloantigen incompatibility, such as the bleeding disorders post-transfusion purpura, post-transfusion platelet refractoriness, and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. The two allelic forms of CD109 differ by a single amino acid. The Gova allelic form has Tyr at amino acid position 703 in the CD109 sequence. The Govb allelic form has Ser at the same position. This amino acid difference is due to a single change, from A for the Gova allele to C for the Govb allele, in the CD109 gene.

  • Patent number: 8309931
Abstract: Reliable and rapid diagnostic methods for many functional syndromes (FS) such as Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (IC) are not available. Exemplary embodiments include rapid and accurate methods for diagnosing FS in humans and domestic cats using infrared microspectroscopy (IRMS). Exemplary methods utilize Soft Independent Modeling by Class Analogy (SIMCA) to create classification models. Exemplary methods utilize classification models to classify a test subject's condition (e.g., healthy/sick). Using these classification models, various embodiments enable diagnosis based on spectra data from a fluid biomedical specimen. Exemplary embodiments may be useful to rapidly diagnose IC and various other conditions in humans, cats, and/or other mammals.

  • Patent number: 8307906
Abstract: Apparatus and method for converting a fire suppression system from a single interlock electric or double interlock electro-pneumatic system to a single interlock pneumatic system which draws no electrical power. A pneumatic actuator is in fluid communication with a pressurized piping network and a control valve controlling flow of fire suppressant to the network. The pneumatic actuator is isolated from the piping network by a check valve and a latching solenoid valve. In the event of a power failure the latching solenoid valve is opened, placing the pneumatic actuator in fluid communication with the piping network. Electrical power is drawn only to change the state of the latching solenoid valve, it otherwise draws no power. When the latching solenoid valve is open the pneumatic actuator controls actuation of the control valve, and triggers the control valve when there is a pressure change in the piping network indicative of a fire.

  • Patent number: 8302514
Abstract: A device for processing a pipe has a bearing plate slidably mounted on a support plate. A drive roller, engageable with an inner surface of a pipe, is mounted on the bearing plate and rotates about an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. Support rollers, mounted on the support plate, engage and support the pipe against the drive roller. Springs are positioned in contact with the support plate and the bearing plate and bias the drive roller into engagement with the pipe. Variations in pipe wall thickness are compensated for by sliding motion of the bearing plate relatively to the support plate as the drive roller rotates and the pipe and the device move relatively to one another.

  • Patent number: 8298666
Abstract: An electroluminescent (EL) phosphor is described wherein each individual phosphor particle is encapsulated in an inorganic coating, preferably aluminum oxyhydroxide. The encapsulated phosphor shows an extreme insensitivity to atmospheric moisture and suffers only minor loss of initial brightness in lamps. The method of applying the coating is a hybrid process, which involves EL phosphor particles first being coated with a thin inorganic film using an atomic layer deposition (ALD) method in a fluidized bed wherein the precursors are introduced sequentially in repeated cycles, subsequently followed by an additional coating layer applied by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method in which the precursors are introduced simultaneously.
