Abstract: A data processing system provides a folder icon for holding representations of sheets of information in user desired order. The folder has a closed position in which a user generated label is viewable. The label is designed through a processor window activated through a tab portion of the closed folder icon. The folder also has an open position for viewing the sheets held in the folder. The folder is changed between its open and closed positions by activation of a main body portion of the closed icon and the tab portion of the open folder icon. The open folder icon provides addition or removal of representations of sheets of information from and to an area outside of the folder in a screen view.

Abstract: This invention relates to the identification of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) of the human pancreatic cholesterol esterase gene. Specifically, the invention relates to the use of RFLP analysis for identifying individuals with a particular genetic variant of the human pancreatic cholesterol esterase gene. The invention also relates to treatment of individuals with therapeutic drugs for the prevention or alleviation of disease states in a human related to cholesterol metabolism.

Abstract: The invention features a novel recombinant polypeptide that transactivates the somatostatin promoter, the polypeptide being present in pancreatic duct cells and not present in pancreatic .alpha.-cells, the polypeptide being encoded by a gene which encodes a protein on the order of 31 kd.
Abstract: A television signal format converter is provided for converting without loss of picture information any high definition television format to or from a given recorder/player format. An interface converts between RGB and luminance/chrominance inputs and between analog and digital inputs. The interface couples any proposed high definition television format to a plurality of pairs of memories. A clock and control circuit controls addressing of the memories for reading and writing so that conversion is performed between any high definition television format and the format required for a given high definition digital video tape recorder or any other comparable recorder.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the isolation, characterization and pharmacological uses for the human D5 dopamine receptor, the gene corresponding to this receptor, pseudogenes of this receptor gene, a recombinant eukaryotic expression vector capable of expressing the human D5 dopamine receptor in cultures of transformed eukaryotic cells and such cultures of transformed eukaryotic cells that synthesize the human D5 dopamine receptor. The invention relates to the biochemical and physiological characterization of the human D5 dopamine receptor and the development and testing of drugs useful for treating or preventing human disease.

Abstract: A transistor element is formed on the surface of a silicon substrate. A tunnel is formed in the silicon substrate at a position right under the transistor element. A contact hole is formed to extend from the surface of the silicon substrate to the contact hole. Silicon oxide films are respectively formed on the inner surfaces of the tunnel and the contact hole. A wiring layer is buried in the tunnel and the contact hole. The wiring layer is connected to a diffusion layer of the transistor element.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel mammalian methadone-specific opioid receptor protein and genes that encode a such protein. The invention is directed toward the isolation, characterization and pharmacological use of mammalian methadone-specific opioid receptor proteins. The invention specifically provides isolated complementary DNA copies of mRNA corresponding to the rat homologue or the mammalian methadone-specific opioid receptor gene. Also provided are recombinant expression constructs capable of expressing the mammalian methadone-specific opioid receptor genes of the invention in cultures of transformed prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, as well as such cultures of transformed cells that synthesize the mammalian methadone-specific opioid receptor proteins encoded therein.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel mammalian amino acid transporter proteins and the genes that encode such proteins. The invention is directed toward the isolation, characterization and pharmacological use of the human amino acid transporter proteins EAAT1, EAAT2, EAAT3 and ASCT1. The invention specifically provides isolated complementary DNA copies of mRNA corresponding to each of these transporter genes. Also provided are recombinant expression constructs capable of expressing each of the amino acid transporter genes of the invention in cultures of transformed prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, as well as such cultures of transformed cells that synthesize the human amino acid transporter proteins encoded therein. The invention also provides methods for screening in vitro compounds having transport-modulating properties using preparations of transporter proteins from such cultures of cells transformed with recombinant expression constructs.

Abstract: The present invention provides peptides having an amino acid sequence that is the amino acid sequence of a human bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) functional domain or a subsequence thereof, and variants of the sequence or subsequence thereof, having at least one of the BPI biological activities, such as heparin binding, heparin neutralization, LPS binding, LPS neutralization or bactericidal activity. The invention provides peptides and pharmaceutical compositions of such peptides for a variety of therapeutic uses.
Abstract: Vectors for the integration of a gene into the genetic material of a mammalian host cell such that the gene may be expressed by the host cell comprise a promoter and the gene and include a dominant activator sequence capable of eliciting host cell-type restricted, integration site independent, copy number dependent expression of the gene.
