  • Patent number: 6113429
Abstract: The invention relates to a plug-type coupling for sheathed electrical cables, particularly for use in mining, with a flexible protective sheath which accommodates electrical conductors of the cable. The end of the sheath is gripped in a pullproof and sealed fashion between a pressed sleeve which surrounds it and an inner backing sleeve, these parts forming part of the coupling which also includes a coupling sleeve which adjoins the pressed sleeve and receives an insert which holds contact elements electrically connected to the electrical conductors. According to the invention, the pressed sleeve is joined to the coupling sleeve to form a one-piece connector to which the insert carrying the contact elements can be coupled in a pullproof fashion by means of a snap connection. The distinctive features of the sheathed cable coupling according to the invention are simplicity of construction, ease of assembly and low production cost.

  • Patent number: 6085372
Abstract: The mattress includes a main assembly, a pair of bolsters, and a bottom assembly. The main assembly is adapted to overlay the conventional mattress of the bed, and has opposing longitudinal sides, and comprises a plurality of cells that are selectively inflatable for moving the patient in the preselected ways so as to prevent the patient from having the skin breakdowns. The pair of bolsters are replaceably attached to, and extend along, the opposing longitudinal sides of the main assembly, and are inflatable, and when inflated, form barriers that prevent the patient from falling off the bed when the patient is turning. The bottom assembly is adapted to overlay the conventional mattress of the bed and underlie the main assembly, and when inflated, forms a static air space between the main assembly and the conventional mattress of the bed that prevents the patient from bottoming out on the low side of the turning, while suspending the patient in the cushion of static air if the power to the main assembly fails.

  • Patent number: 6082387
Abstract: A tornado generating method and apparatus in accordance with the present invention can generate a tornado without forming an enclosed space and forcedly generating a spiral flow therein, and an object of the present invention is to ensure a wide collection range with vortex convergency of the tornado. In particular, a fluid flow in a fixed direction is brought into contact with a discontinuous fluid flow flowing in the reverse direction, remaining in a static state and flowing with a different rate relative to said fluid flow, or an object, to form a discontinuous plane therebetween. By sucking a fluid from at least one end of the axial direction of a plurality of vortexes generated on the discontinuous plane, the plurality of vortexes can be converged to form a core of a tornado in a free space, thereby artificially generating a tornado toward the sucking direction and a wide range of collection is ensured by the vortex convergency of the tornado.

  • Patent number: 6078712
Abstract: A cable for connecting control units of powered supports to each other to prevent simultaneous movement of two adjacent powered supports in underground mining. The cable includes plug housings, at least one optical waveguide, connecting elements, optoelectric transducers, and potting. Each housing contains a chamber and has an electric plug-in coupling that connects to the control units. The at least one optical waveguide has ends with light entry and light exit surfaces. The connecting elements are arranged at the ends of the at least one optical waveguide and are arranged in the chamber in a respective plug housing. The optoelectric transducers are connected to the connecting elements and are arranged in the chamber of the respective plug housing and transmit data between the control units.

  • Patent number: 6062374
Abstract: The link chain according to the invention is preferably intended for scraper-chain conveyors of long conveyor lengths and correspondingly high drive powers, and comprises vertical and horizontal chain links that are hooked into one another in an articulated manner. The vertical chain links have a non-round, approximately semicircular cross-section provided on the external contour with a flattening, and the horizontal chain links have an oval internal opening whose clear internal width, has a shape corresponding to the cross-sectional contour of the vertical chain links, and is greater than the clear internal width of the vertical chain links. It is preferable that the pitch and the length of the horizontal chain links is greater than the pitch and length of the vertical chain links. The external boundary of the nose parts of the horizontal chain links preferably extend at right angles to the chain axis, with the result that a broad chainwheel bearing surface is formed.

  • Patent number: 6056481
Abstract: According to the invention, monitoring the load on hydraulic powered shield supports in underground use is performed by using the controller (13) serving for extraction control, which is equipped with microelectronics for load monitoring and load control, the components of the powered shield support being assigned sensors (14 to 18) whose electric measured values are used by the controller (13) for evaluating the measured signals and for driving the hydraulic rams (6, 7) and/or the angle cylinder (11) assigned to the powered shield support. The load control is preferably designed here in such a way that the critical load situations "one-sided loading" and/or "tip-toeing" are detected as early as during the setting operation, with the aid of appropriate sensors, and are rendered non-damaging in their effect by appropriately driving the hydraulic rams and/or the angle cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6050798
Abstract: A rotary tablet press has a rotating mold table and top and bottom plungers, which can move reciprocally in plunger guides, coaxially with the molds. The reciprocating motion of at least the bottom plungers is cam-controlled and these plungers are acted upon by a damping element to prevent an overshoot of their movement. To ensure an action which is as free from wear and is as maintenance-free as possible whilst maintaining constant damping of the bottom plungers, it is proposed according to the invention that the damping element consists of at least one magnetic element which acts on the plungers.

  • Patent number: 6032573
Abstract: A cheesecake batter is baked in individual cups as it is continuously moved from one end of an oven to the other. Thereafter, it is cooled by being transferred to a cooling table covered with a hood. The cooling table and the hood are arranged in line with the other end of the oven, and contains a downward laminar sterile air flow to envelop the baked cheesecake batter on the cooling table. In addition, the cooling table and the hood are spaced from the other end of the oven a distance in which the flow of heated vapor from the oven react and create a vacuum, thereby maintaining the baked cheesecake batter under constant sterile conditions, as it moves from the oven to the cooling table.

  • Patent number: 6029799
Abstract: A method for controlling the main and auxiliary drives of conveyors, for example, in underground mining. The drives are controlled as a function of the loading of the conveyor in such a way that in a low load range of the conveyor the auxiliary drive produces a higher output (20.sub.I) than the main drives and as the load increases the output advantage of the auxiliary drive in relation to the main drives is reduced. This special load distribution to auxiliary and main drives has the advantage that sagging of the conveyor element, for example the chain of a scraper chain conveyor in the inaccessible and concealed lower strand, close to the main drive, can be prevented. The risk of damage to the machine frame or conveyor chain is thereby reduced.
