  • Patent number: 4867118
Abstract: A cylinder head and combustion chamber sealing arrangement that is subdivided into a sealing element in the cylinder liner region (especially for sealing gas) and a sealing element in the cylinder block region. Both sealing elements are made of solid metal. The sealing element for gas sealing, which is disposed in the liner-collar recess, is stressed in a certain range beyond the yield limit of the material by tightening the cylinder head screws. To improve the gas sealing, on the one hand a circumferential groove is provided in the cylinder head opposite the recess in the cylinder liner collar, and on the other hand the recess itself is provided with either a circumferential groove or a circumferential rib. By this means, the liner sealing element is stressed beyond the material yield level in the specific region of its outer and inner perimeters.

  • Patent number: 4866320
Abstract: A fan assembly that includes an impeller driven by an electric motor. The housing for the impeller has an air intake opening and a pressure-side connection for the discharge of air, with the pressure-side connection being provided with an air inlet opening that communicates with an air conduit that in turn leads to the electric motor housing. Air that flows through the air conduit is supplied at least to the region of the commutator of the electric motor. The electric motor housing is provided with an air outlet opening for receiving air that has been supplied to the electric motor housing via the air conduit, with this air outlet opening being in flow communication with an underpressure region of the impeller remote from the pressure-side connection of the impeller housing.

  • Patent number: 4865532
Abstract: An apparatus for vulcanizing pneumatic vehicle tires where the tire beads, in the mounted state, are disposed on the radially inner periphery of a rim next to the essentially radially inwardly extending rim flanges. In order to obtain tires having a long service life and tire beads with a good sealing quality, it is proposed that the tire be vulcanized in essentially the proper contour for operation. Two, respectively radially segmented, bead-forming rings that have a variable diameter and can be displaced axially are provided. For the purpose of vulcanizing the sealing surfaces disposed in the interior of the tire so that these surfaces will rest on the rim in an airtight manner, the bead-forming rings are introduced, in a radially retracted state, into the interior of the tire blank, whereby at least one of the tire beads is ovally deformed.

  • Patent number: 4865494
Abstract: A numerically controlled machine for processing printed circuit boards, including a workpiece holder and at least one operating unit that includes a motor arbor with an exchangeable tool, and a feed mechanism with a drive motor, a control mechanism, and a first movement-measuring system. For each operating unit, there is provided a respective second movement-measuring system that is disposed thereon, and a respective reference measuring point on the workpiece holder, with the aid of which there can be measured a distance between a tip of the tool and an abutment surface of the operating unit that rests upon a workpiece during a processing operation. Prescribed drilling depths are correctable in the control mechanism of the feed mechanism via the measured distance value. This compensation of respective tolerance values is effected independently for each operating unit.

  • Patent number: 4864919
Abstract: A narrow vent for aerating windshields of tractors, work machines, etc. The vent has a plurality of fins that spread the air stream that is directed onto a window in a fan-like manner. A portion of the fins, as side fins, are directed onto a region adjacent the vent, and the other portion of the fins, as main fins, are directed onto a region just ahead of the vent, with the angle provided by the fins corresponding approximately to a quarter circle. The air-exit plane provided by the vent extends at most insignificantly beyond the vehicle body part in which the vent is installed. All of the fins are partially recessed in the vent. The side fins are longer, and the outermost side fin is considerably longer, than the main fins.

  • Patent number: 4850700
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a coal/water mixture for combustion in a fluidized bed unit. To produce a hydraulically transportable coal/water mixture, crushed raw coal is preliminarily mixed with water in a first stage. This mixture is final mixed in a second mixing stage. The fine grain-size fraction required for the hydraulic transport is generated in the first mixing stage. The viscosity of the mixture present in the second mixing stage is determined, and as a function thereof additional water is added to the mixture in the second mixing stage, and/or the mixing process in the first mixing stage is altered in order to alter the fine grain-size fraction.

  • Patent number: 4846642
Abstract: A gap seal formed between surfaces cooperating with each other such that operation free of engagement between the cooperating rotor and housing parts with respect to each other at relative speeds occurs subject to a roughened light-metal surface of one part cooperating with a covering of foamed synthetic material on the other part so as to assure gap seal therebetween rather than having any metal-to-metal and/or foamed-material to foamed-material interengagement. The foamed synthetic material covering of a surface preferably is made of polyurethane and the light-metal surface is made of aluminum roughened by sandblasting or etching. The lightweight metal part can have cavities and recess spaces therein to be filled with foamed material as well as other fins, ribs, and anchoring provision for holding the foamed synthetic material bodies in place.
