  • Patent number: 8151012
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems to decrease the energy consumption of a memory chip while increasing its effect bandwidth during the execution of any workload. Methods, apparatuses and systems may allow a memory chip utilize a plurality of virtual row buffers to respond to requests for data included in a memory array block. Methods, apparatuses and systems may further eliminate or reduce the cost associated with transferring unnecessary data from a memory array block to row buffers by altering the data transfer size between a memory array block and a row buffer.

  • Patent number: 8064888
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing user-selectable data when a user is on hold are provided. A communications system can automatically detect when a user is placed on hold. Additionally, a user can indicate when he/she has been placed on hold. After it has been determined that a user is placed on hold, the system can select adaptive information according to predetermined selection criteria and present that adaptive information to the user. A system can also generate contextual data which is related to the content of a current communication and use that contextual data (in addition to any predetermined selection criteria) to select adaptive information that is relevant to a user's communications. Contextual data can be generated before a user is placed on hold by analyzing a communications signal in order to identify keywords that are based on the content of that communication.

  • Patent number: 7162884
Abstract: A pressure and vacuum valve manifold system such as may be used, for example, to actuate pneumatic bladders controlling airflow in a forced air HVAC system to provide zone climate control. The valves are individually operable to connect a respective individual bladder to pressure or to vacuum. Two manifolds can be mated and commonly fed pressure and vacuum. The two manifolds can be of identical construction. One manifold chamber from each can be connected into a single large pressure manifold, and another manifold chamber from each can be connected into a single large vacuum manifold. Such connections can be made with fittings which also serve as pressure and vacuum relief valves, respectively. The valve plungers are arranged in a grid, enabling a simple X-Y two-motor servo system to actuate all the valves, one at a time.

  • Patent number: 7105382
Abstract: A device where the electrodes of an electroosmotic pump are located directly in the flow-producing region of the electroosmotic pump is described as well as methods of forming such a device. Placing the electrodes of an electroosmotic pump directly in the flow-producing region of the electroosmotic pump may increase the flow rate of a cooling fluid that is pumped through the pump. The cooling fluid may then remove a greater amount of heat from the substrate over which it is flowed. The substrate may be the non-device side of a die or a thermal management chip that is placed in direct contact with the non-device side of a die. In these instances the electroosmotic pump may be part of a microelectronic package containing the die or the thermal management chip.

  • Patent number: 7036067
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the invention, a method and apparatus are described for error detection for multi-stream communication. Under an embodiment of the invention, a method for producing an error word for a data stream comprises computing an intermediate error word for each of a plurality of data sub-streams, the data stream being equivalent to a concatenation of the plurality of data sub-streams; and combining the intermediate error words to produce the error word for the data stream.

  • Patent number: 7023639
Abstract: Disclosed is a rotatable media storage device (RMSD) connectable to a host. The RMSD include a movable head to perform track following, a disk, and a synch mark detection circuit. The disk includes a circumferential track that has a plurality of embedded servo wedges utilized in track following. The synch mark detection circuit has a first detection mode and a second detection mode. In the first detection mode, the synch mark detection circuit detects a servo synchronization signal based on the head reading a SSM of a servo header of an embedded servo wedge. In the second detection mode, the synch mark detection circuit detects a servo synchronization signal based on the head reading a SSM and a wedge identifier of a servo header of an embedded servo wedge. The wedge ID is utilized in conjunction with the SSM to validate the servo synchronization signal.

  • Patent number: 6492928
Abstract: Power-up and power-down transient suppression are provided for an audio digital-to-analog converter with a single ended output to prevent annoying pops which accompany switching an audio system on and off. Power-up suppression is achieved by clamping an output signal to ground, driving the audio channel to ground, releasing the clamp and driving the audio channel gradually to its quiescent (zero signal) value. Power-down suppression is provided by using a positive feedback amplifier to accelerate current drain initiated by a constant current source used to bleed off the charge on output capacitor. The audio digital-to-analog converter sets operational mode based on ratios of a master clock to a channel selection clock. The techniques disclosed apply readily to the outputs received from CDs, CD-ROMs, DAT and other digital recording media.

  • Patent number: 6172684
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating a display list permitting multiple states of the same type for a single primitive. By introducing a plurality of state variables of the same type in a predetermined order in a display list before a primitive description, different state variables of the same type are applied to different vertex descriptors of the primitive. In one embodiment, the state variables introduced are starting addresses of the groups of vertices addressable by vertex indices of the primitive. In a case where the primitive is a triangle, up to three different starting addresses might be introduced into the display list (one corresponding to each vertex of the triangle). By introducing multiple starting addresses, the vertex indices of the triangle description can be significantly shortened, the concern about variable length inputs can be eliminated, and each index is independent of its predecessor in the master display list.

  • Patent number: 5000573
Abstract: In a method of measuring/adjusting a relative displacement of objects using diffraction gratings, two monochromatic beams each having slightly different frequencies are synthesized to cause optical heterodyne interference so as to generate two beat signals. One of the beat signals is used as a reference signal. The other is used as a first interference beat signal generated by emitting the two monochromatic beams on a first diffraction grating arranged on a first object and by synthesizing two diffracted beams generated from the first diffraction grating by the above emission to cause optical heterodyne interference. A phase difference between the reference beat signal and the interference beat signal is then detected. Finally, the relative displacement is measured/adjusted in accordance with the phase difference.
