  • Patent number: 6895077
Abstract: A system for x-ray fluoroscopic imaging of bodily tissue in which a scintillation screen and a charge coupled device (CCD) is used to accurately image selected tissue. An x-ray source generates x-rays which pass through a region of a subject's body, forming an x-ray image which reaches the scintillation screen. The scintillation screen re-radiates a spatial intensity pattern corresponding to the image, the pattern being detected by the CCD sensor. In a preferred embodiment the imager uses four 8×8-cm three-side buttable CCDs coupled to a CsI:T1 scintillator by straight (non-tapering) fiberoptics and tiled to achieve a field of view (FOV) of 16×16-cm at the image plane. Larger FOVs can be achieved by tiling more CCDs in a similar manner. The imaging system can be operated in a plurality of pixel pitch modes such as 78, 156 or 234-?m pixel pitch modes. The CCD sensor may also provide multi-resolution imaging.

  • Patent number: 6880829
Abstract: A brush shroud assembly for reducing the tip clearance between a rotating blade and an engine casing is disclosed. The assembly includes a plurality of bristle packs supported within a housing such that the bristle distribution at the inner diameter of the bristle packs is substantially continuous. The continuous surface is created by mounting the bristles packs within a housing such that the packs are flared, i.e. width at the outer diameter of the bristle pack is smaller than that at the inner diameter. Various embodiments are disclosed for mounting the flared bristle packs to form a substantially continuous inner diameter. The bristle strips may be mounted in one or more annular rings, may be secured within one or more channels in the housing, the bristle packs may be formed into a tufted ring, or any of these may be utilized in combination with a backplate supporting an abradable seal, i.e. a hybrid design.

  • Patent number: 6863117
Abstract: A capillary evaporator (100) for removing heat from a heat source (102), particularly under high heat-flux conditions. The capillary evaporator includes a housing (104) having a plurality of ribs (108) in thermal communication with the heat source when the heat source is present. The ribs define a plurality of vapor channels (110) for receiving vapor (112) caused by the vaporization of working fluid (114) within the evaporator. A capillary wick (106) is located within the housing in spaced relation to the ribs. A bridge (118) interposed between the capillary wick and ribs thermally communicates heat from the ribs to the wick and fluidly communicates the vapor from the wick to the vapor channels. The bridge includes a plurality of fractal layers (FL) each having openings (122) and webs (128) that are scaled in size and number with respect to the immediately adjacent fractal layer and are arranged so that the openings in adjacent layers overlap one another.
