  • Patent number: 7065837
Abstract: A guide handle of a handle assembly for an industrial machine such as a walk behind trowel has the open-ended handlebar characteristics of a so-called “bicycle” style guide handle and the belly bar and gripping versatility characteristics of a “whale tail” style guide handle. The belly bar spans the gap between the two handgrip portions, and both portions are mounted on a center post of the handle assembly at the bottom leg of a generally U-shaped mounting portion. The mounting portion can be welded or otherwise affixed to a post of the handle assembly at any desired angle, thereby permitting the orientation of the guide handle to be optimized for a given guide handle height.

  • Patent number: 7059802
Abstract: A lightweight, easy to assemble, and compact exciter assembly for a compaction device such as a drum assembly of a vibratory trench roller or the like includes a fixed weight and one or more free swinging weights mounted on an exciter shaft, without using any mounting hardware, so as to hold the free swinging weights axially in position while permitting them to swing between first and second angular positions on the exciter shaft. Preferably, the fixed weight is mounted on a central portion of the exciter shaft, and two free swinging weights are mounted adjacent the ends of the fixed weight so as to be restrained from substantial sliding movement along the exciter shaft solely by the fixed weight and other operative components of the exciter assembly such as bearings and/or gears or other torque transfer elements.

  • Patent number: 7059205
Abstract: A system for extracting samples from a stream in a conduit utilizing a probe, placed in the stream and having a channel for passing samples from the conduit stream. First and second pressure taps measure the pressure inside and outside the probe. A feedback signal, based on a pressure differential relative to the probe, is generated and controls a valve regulating sample velocity flow through the probe channel, that bears a fixed proportion to the velocity of flow in the conduit. The constant of proportionality between flow velocities in the conduit and the probe may be 1.0, resulting in an isokinetic sampling condition.

  • Patent number: 7055697
Abstract: A system for screening fluid-borne material from a fluid that carries particulate matter along with the material, e.g. for screening usable fibers in papermaking or tissue making white water that also contains waste material such as fines and ash. The system employs a flexible and pliable screen to which the fluid is applied. The screen is supported in a suspended manner from a frame. The fluid is directed onto an inside surface defined by the screen, and the location at which the fluid strikes the screen is varied so as to result in bending and flexing of the screen due to the flexibility and pliability of the screen material. In this manner, the configuration of the screen drainage passages is continuously altered, to provide a self-cleaning action that prevents the screen passages from plugging or blinding over. In one form, the screen is generally frustoconical, and the fluid is applied to the inside surface of the screen in a manner which results in rotation of the screen.

  • Patent number: 7044007
Abstract: A force scanning probe microscope (FSPM) and associated method of making force measurements on a sample includes a piezoelectric scanner having a surface that supports the sample so as to move the sample in three orthogonal directions. The FSPM also includes a displacement sensor that measures movement of the sample in a direction orthogonal to the surface and generates a corresponding position signal so as to provide closed loop position feedback. In addition, a probe is fixed relative to the piezoelectric scanner, while a deflection detection apparatus is employed to sense a deflection of the probe. The FSPM also includes a controller that generates a scanner drive signal based on the position signal, and is adapted to operate according to a user-defined input that can change a force curve measurement parameter during data acquisition.

  • Patent number: 7044358
Abstract: A structure for supporting a plurality of objects having cylindrical characteristics. The structure includes a first side and a second side, the first side having at least two rib structures spaced apart from one another by valleys. The rib structures are formed as an alternating series of arches and depressions. The depressions define the retaining position for the objects. The arches include lands with cavities that enhance the structural characteristics of the ribs. The second side includes three or more spaced rib sections that are formed as an alternating series of peaks and depressions. The depressions of the second side correspond to the depressions of the first side. The rib sections of the second side correspond to the valleys of the first side. The arches of the first side are relatively higher than the equivalents in the prior art in order to provide greater surface area contact with the cylindrical objects to be retained.

  • Patent number: 7044347
Abstract: A bicycle carrier includes a wheel support arrangement and a stabilizer engageable with a bicycle wheel, for maintaining the bicycle upright. The stabilizer includes an inner section and an extendible and retractable outer section. The inner section is pivotable throughout a range of positions, including an operating position. A releasable engagement arrangement selectively maintains the outer section in a predetermined position relative to the inner section. The inner section includes an interlock, which prevents engagement of the releasable engagement arrangement other than when the stabilizer is in the operative position, to ensure that the stabilizer is engaged with the bicycle in a desired position relative to the bicycle. The interlock provides a sensory indication when the stabilizer is in the operative position, and includes a manual actuator disengaging the releasable engagement arrangement to move the stabilizer away from the operative position.

  • Patent number: 7040546
Abstract: A system for positioning a spray apparatus relative to a surface, in which the spray apparatus directs a liquid coating such as paint toward the surface for applying the liquid to the surface in a spray pattern. A light beam emitter is interconnected with the spray apparatus, and emits a light beam in a predetermined orientation relative to the spray pattern such that the light beam strikes the surface in a center defined by the spray pattern when the spray apparatus is positioned a predetermined distance from the surface. The light beam is oriented such that the distance of the spray apparatus corresponds to a distance providing optimal application of the coating to the surface, to minimize waste and overspray. The light beam emitter may be engaged with the spray apparatus by a releasable mounting arrangement, such that the light beam emitter can be selectively mounted to the spray apparatus. The light beam is emitted from a light beam emitter housing, such as a laser generator.
