  • Patent number: 5600185
Abstract: A device for controlling the release of a drag racer which is adapted for use in elapsed time starts as well as standard starts. The race crew inputs the opponent's established elapsed time and their own established elapsed time into the invention, as well as the standard timing-light/reaction-time delay. The device then calculates the handicap by which a faster car will be held and adds that time to the timing-light/reaction-time delay. This permits the driver to begin release timing from his opponent's Christmas tree lights. The driver may use his own Christmas tree if he wishes by setting the ET timers to zero, to equal values, or by setting the opponent's ET lower than his own.

  • Patent number: 5492204
Abstract: A trailer breakaway safety mechanism which brings a trailer to a controlled stop after disengagement with a pulling vehicle. The mechanism consists of a cable which remains attached to the trailer after the trailer has disengaged from the pulling vehicle. As the trailer slows in relationship to the pulling vehicle, the cable activates a breaking mechanism on the trailer. Once the breaking mechanism has been fully actuated, the hook which attaches the cable to the pulling vehicle fails thereby completely releasing the trailer from the pulling vehicle. Steel balls are swaged to the cables so that when the cable is released from the pulling vehicle, a spring lock can engage the balls and prevent the cable from retracting and releasing the actuated brake. After the trailer has come to a complete stop, a screwdriver or other tool may be inserted into the housing of a mechanism to push back the spring lock and release the steel balls which thereby allows the cable to release the trailer brake.

  • Patent number: 5485900
Abstract: An automatic brake lockout for restricting operation of a trailer hitch surge suppressor as a trailer is being backed by a pulling vehicle. The automatic brake lockout works on a two-part trailer hitch with a first member sliding toward a second member to activate the surge suppressor. When actuated, the automatic brake lockout restricts movement of the first member toward the second member to allow the trailer to be backed without the surge suppressor being actuated. Once the trailer has been adequately backed, the pulling vehicle need only move slightly forward to release the automatic brake lockout device and leave the surge suppressor operable.

  • Patent number: 5437823
Abstract: A method of molding a plastic part with a controlled density whereby a blowing agent is added to a plastic material and the material is injected into a mold cavity of a mold unit. The interior walls of the mold cavity are maintained at a temperature sufficient to prevent the outer skin of the forming plastic article from producing gas bubbles. The volume of the mold cavity is increased to allow bubbles to produce and uniformly distribute themselves throughout the mold cavity and then a recompression phase is instituted whereby the desired density of the finished plastic article is achieved without voids or aberrations appearing in the surface of the plastic article.

  • Patent number: 5423456
Abstract: Apparatus for continuous flow weighing of a flowable material includes a pair of sequential conveyors. A first, control conveyor moves material from an inlet to a discharge point. A second, weighing conveyor is mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis at its inlet end. The pivot point is positioned below the discharge of the control conveyor. The outlet end of the weighing conveyor is suspended from and weighed by a load cell. Electronic control circuitry monitors the material transport rate of the weighing conveyor which, in combination with the output of the loadcell, is used to determine the weight flow rate of material being discharged from the weighing conveyor. The material transport rate of the weighing auger is adjusted to result in a preselected weight flow rate.

  • Patent number: 5422059
Abstract: A method and apparatus for injection molding a plastic part using a film gate. The film gate is constructed of a pair of tenon members which retract into a mortise tooled into a mold section. Because the tenon members extend to release the dross formed in the runner, the film gate may be placed in the center of the mold section to decrease the pressure gradient in the curing plastic and to allow the gate to be located where aesthetic aberrations, from the removal of the dross, will not be a problem in the finished article.

  • Patent number: 5402945
Abstract: An improved method for row crop spraying whereby a solution is atomized by high speed air, imparted with an electrical charge, slowed with more high speed air, and deposited over crops including a nozzle for practicing such a technique. Such charged droplets are attracted to oppositely charged crops and are, therefore, more likely to adhere to crops than fall to the ground or to be swept away by the wind. Since a larger percentage of solution adheres to the plant, less solution can be applied thereby addressing both environmental and pecuniary concerns.
