  • Patent number: 5715123
Abstract: The invention permits outwards engagement of a magnetic tape from a conventional audio cassette for processing the tape in a manner to reduce prior art tape-to-head alignment problems. When the cassette is inserted into the apparatus, concurrently a tape engager is inserted into a lateral access opening associated with a cassette well (i.e. a capstan opening or cavity) and is positioned adjacent an inside face of the tape. The tape engager contacts a length of tape, and a head block assembly member is inserted into the well to cooperate with the tape and the tape engager to ensure separation between an outside face of the tape and the cassette, and to reduce contact between an inside face of the tape and a portion of the cassette. In one embodiment, the tape engager is rotatable to displace the tape outwardly with respect to the well.

  • Patent number: 5676081
Abstract: A marine helm pump assembly comprises a helm pump unit and a helm pump mounting cooperating with the helm pump unit. The helm pump unit is connectable with hydraulic conduits to a steering assembly and cooperates with a rotatable helm to be gripped by an operator. The helm pump mounting is securable to a portion of the marine vessel, which can sometimes be restricted to access by an operator. The helm pump unit is mounted for limited rotation with respect to the helm pump mounting about a tilt axis passing transversely through the unit and the mounting to permit the rotatable helm to be tilted or swivelled about the tilt axis through an arc centred on the tilt axis to change orientation of the helm. This tilting can accommodate orientation preferences of the operator, as well as facilitating access to, or exit from, a restricted area adjacent to the helm. Because the helm pump can rotate with respect to the helm pump mounting, problems associated with prior art articulated steering columns are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5645728
Abstract: A method of recovering hydrogen peroxide from colored aqueous solutions is disclosed. The solution is brought in contact with a non-ionic size-exclusion chromatography resin made up of packed particles having narrow, low molecular weight pores. The higher molecular weight colored constituents are largely excluded from the pores causing these constituents to be more rapidly eluted with water along the exterior of the particles. Hydrogen peroxide molecules are small enough to enter the pores several times in their passage through the resin which slows their progress sufficiently to cause elution of hydrogen peroxide after the colored constituents have been eluted, effectively resolving the two components.

  • Patent number: 5482218
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for crushing material such as rock and includes a support structure having an inlet and an outlet. A powered rotor shaft rotates with respect to the support structure about a shaft axis, and a rotor mounted eccentrically on shaft describes orbital motion about the shaft axis. The rotor has a rotor wall which moves cyclically and laterally with respect to the axis during the orbital motion. At least one stator is mounted in the support structure to provide a stator wall spaced oppositely from the rotor wall to define therewith opposing walls of a crushing chamber located between the inlet and outlet. Feed direction of material passing between the inlet and outlet is generally perpendicular to the shaft axis, and when the rotor describes the orbital motion, spacing between opposing walls of the chamber varies cyclically. The stator is mounted yieldably so as to move away from the rotor when a pre-determined threshold force is exceeded so as to reduce possible damage.
