  • Patent number: 5398461
Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning the outer surface of a pipeline (10, 10B, 10C) including a self propelled carriage (28, 28B, 28C) supported on the pipeline for movement. A housing (30, 30B, 30C) forms an enclosed cleaning chamber about the pipeline and the cleaning material along with entrained waste material removed from the pipeline may be conveyed by a suitable conduit (40) from a discharge opening in the bottom of the housing (30, 30B, 30C) for separation of the cleaning material and waste material and return of the separate water to the housing in a recirculation system. The embodiment of FIGS. 11-15 is particularly adapted for use with high pressure water and includes a plurality of nozzle units (91C) mounted externally on the housing (30C) with each unit (91C) having a hydraulic fluid drive motor (96C) operatively connected to a nozzle (94C) for pivoting of the nozzle (94C) back and forth in an arcuate path. High pressure water is supplied to a tube or tubular shaft (90 C) connected to the nozzle (94C).

  • Patent number: 5396950
Abstract: Methods and apparatus combinations for making a substantially horizontal water well completion for irrigation or commercial water supply purposes includes running a substantially vertical surface string of casing, running a bend section of casing that has been preformed to provide a bend angle of about 90.degree. in a straightened-out condition down through the surface section and allowing it to assume its bend condition below the lower end of the surface section, coupling the upper end of the bend section to the lower end of the surface section, running a water production section of casing through both the surface and bend sections and outward horizontally into the aquifer, and either coupling the inner end thereof to the outer end of the bend section, or extending the production section all the way to the surface. Unique coupling mechanisms, running and retrieving tools and other devices also are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5395509
Abstract: A container (10) for a filter (12) has a cylindrical housing (16) receiving the filter (12) and permitting replacement of the filter (12) from an open end. An enlarged diameter fitting (22) is secured about the open end of the cylindrical housing (16) and has retaining lugs (30) for retaining a removable end cap assembly. The removable end cap assembly has an anchor plate (40) with projections (46) that are received within arcuate slots (32) of the end fitting (22). The anchor plate (40) is coupled to an end cap (42) for rotation to position the projections (46) beneath the lugs (30) to restrain outward movement of the anchor plate (40). A single bolt (44) through the end cap (42) is threaded to the anchor plate (40). Rotation of the bolt draws the anchor plate (40) tightly against the lugs (30). The end cap (42) is simultaneously forced against an O-ring (36 ) disposed on the outer end (50) of fitting (22) for sealing the end cap to the container. An embodiment of FIG.

  • Patent number: 5394579
Abstract: A device (20) for releasably securing a flexible covering such as a sheet (18) on a water-filled mattress (16) within a supporting frame (12). The releasable device (20) includes a cord gripping subassembly (22) for gripping a non-elastic cord (74) between a pair of inner and outer bodies (26, 28) under a predetermined gripping force as determined by a spring (56) urging inner body (28) against cord lengths (80, 81) of the cord (74). A loop (82) is positioned over a retainer (78) beneath the sheet (18) and drawn tight by manual pulling of a cord length (81). Then the cord (74) is anchored to bracket (24) by pulling the free end (79) of the cord (74). A cord gripping subassembly (22A) on bracket (24) similar to cord gripping subassembly (22) grips this cord (74) on bracket (24) for tightening of the cord (74) extending from cord gripping subassembly (22) and retainer (78).

  • Patent number: 5386761
Abstract: A valve actuator with an arcuate piston disposed within a housing including a side wall having a partition and two end plates whereby when joined, the housing forms a first and a second compartment. An arcuate piston travels between the compartments via an opening in the partition in an oscillating manner. A removable piston assembly enables removing the arcuate piston, output shaft and lever arms supporting the piston in order to remove the output shaft or to engage a spiral spring connecting the output shaft with the housing. The spiral spring may be pretensioned by winding before inserting the piston assembly into the housing. Fluid pressure applied to either compartment urges movement of the arcuate piston into the opposite compartment.
