  • Patent number: 5779814
Abstract: A method for controlling and removing solid deposits from a surface of at least one component of a steam generating system, wherein the solid deposits are formed from an impurity introduced into the steam generating system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 12, 1995
Date of Patent: July 14, 1998
Inventors: Billy Dean Fellers, Sr., David M. Shenberger
  • Patent number: 5647956
Abstract: A composition comprising aqueous cellulosic furnish, a high molecular weight cationic polymer, and a modified lignin wherein the ratio of the cationic polymer to the modified lignin is from about 10:1 to 1:10 on an active basis is disclosed. A process employing this composition for making paper or paperboard having improved drainage, retention and formation properties is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1995
Date of Patent: July 15, 1997
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: David L. Elliott, Wood E. Hunter, Ronald J. Falcione
  • Patent number: 5449476
Abstract: Aminomethylene phosphonates, which give excellent inhibition of the formation, deposition and adherence of scale-forming salts, especially calcium carbonate, in aqueous systems, are degraded by the oxidizing biocides bromine and chlorine used to control microbial growth in such aqueous systems. It has been found that organic sulfonamides provide excellent protection against such degradation when they are added to the aqueous system along with the aminomethylene phosphonate scale inhibitors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1994
Date of Patent: September 12, 1995
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Ann M. Sherbondy, Daniel P. Vanderpool
  • Patent number: 5433824
Abstract: A method for controlling, inhibiting the deposition of and/or for removing stickies from the surfaces of pulping and papermaking machinery in secondary fiber operations by adding an effective amount of a melamine formaldehyde-type polymer to a pulp slurry or furnish containing secondary fiber that is in contact with said machinery. Improved paper end products resulting from this method are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 26, 1993
Date of Patent: July 18, 1995
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
    Inventor: Paul F. Richardson
  • Patent number: 5330656
Abstract: A method for treating a waste system containing an oil phase dispersed on a water phase is disclosed that includes adding a polysalt having an anionic polymer component and a cationic polymer component wherein the weight ratio of the anionic polymer component to the cationic polymer component ranges from about 5:95 to 40:60, on an active basis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 5, 1993

    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
    Inventor: Denis E. Hassick
  • Patent number: 5318707
Abstract: A method for clarifying phosphoric acid by flocculation or coagulation of solids wherein an effective amount of a carboxylic-type polymer having a portion of sulfonic functionality is used as the clarification aid. Preferred polymers are high molecular weight acrylic acid/acrylamido methylpropyl sulfonic acid-type polymers.
