Abstract: A hydrocarbon-soluble corrosion inhibitor composition comprising the reaction product obtained by the acid-catalyzed oligomerization of alkylaniline, formaldehyde, and an aromatic compound selected from aniline, phenol, alkylphenol and an ethoxylated alkylphenol. Also disclosed is a method of inhibiting corrosion of a corrodible metal utilizing said composition.
Abstract: A method for oxidatively degrading an olefinic polymer in the absence of molecular oxygen and utilizing an oxidant mixture of a peroxide and hydroperoxide is disclosed. Lubricating oils containing the products of the oxidation process as well as the products post-reacted with funtional group-containing compounds show improved viscosity index and dispersancy properties.
Abstract: An emulsifier comprising the reaction product of a substituted succinic anhydride and a nonionic water-soluble compound having 1 to 3 reactive polar groups. There is also disclosed a stable substituted succinic anhydride/nonionic emulsifier composition, a method for imparting water repellency to surfaces containing groups reactive to anhydrides, and a method for the sizing of paper using said composition.
Abstract: A catalyst composition for use in polymerizing alpha olefins which comprises (a) a solid supported titanium tetrahalide complex, wherein said complex is prepared by contacting a mechanically pulverized solid support with titanium tetrahalide in the absence of mechanical pulverization, and (b) a cocatalyst comprising a mixture of a dialkyl aluminum halide and a dialkyl magnesium compound.

Abstract: Preparation of dialkyl oxalates by the oxidative carbonylation of alcohols which comprises reacting carbon monoxide with an alcohol in the presence of a catalytic amount of a catalyst comprising palladium in complex combination with a ligand and in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of a quinone. Advantageously, carboxylic acid cocatalysts may be employed in addition to the palladium-containing catalyst.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a low viscosity aqueous alkyl toluene or alkyl xylene sulfonate which comprises neutralizing alkyl toluene or alkyl xylene sulfonic acid with aqueous sodium hydroxide in the presence of sufficient sodium chloride to lower the viscosity of the sulfonate salt produced. Alternatively, the sodium chloride may be added subsequent to neutralization of the sulfonic acid.
