  • Patent number: 6581823
Abstract: The present invention relates to a readily assembled pastry box that includes a pair of panels extending from opposite sides to form a pair of convenient carrying handles with a finger engaging slot therein, thus eliminating the need for string tying. The box is provided in blank form of conventional card stock and includes appropriate cuts and fold lines for convenient storage and easy assembly. It further includes multiple abutting side portions that interlock with latches to provide reinforcement and stability to protect the contents therein. Although referred to as a pastry box, it finds utility in carrying many other items as well. The unique handles allow for carrying its contents in a horizontal position without fear of damage during transit. The fold lines are optionally provided with slight indentations or perforations over portions thereof to facilitate the folding when assembling the box.

  • Patent number: 6500078
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a baseball pitcher training device for training a pitcher in controlling his lower and upper body portions during the pitch preparation phase as well as the delivery and follow-through phase. The device comprises a portable balance beam and a simulated pitching “rubber” mounted thereon from which the pitcher initiates his pre-pitch movements. The balance beam provides a limited width foot landing area after pitch delivery to limit lower and upper body movement and ensure alignment with the plate to improve pitch accuracy. This embodiment is used primarily for pitch delivery from the stretch position. A second embodiment includes an enlarged mound platform area which is removably placed over the end of the balance beam/rubber area of the first embodiment to provide a more stable pitching area and is used for delivery from the full wind-up position.

  • Patent number: 6431493
Abstract: A release disc that is mounted on one end of a tissue roll holder and provides an easy, less stressful way of releasing a tissue roll holder after the tissue roll has been depleted and it is now time to install a fresh roll of tissue. The release disc is placed over either end of the roll holder on the reduced diameter portion prior to inserting the roll holder by placing one's fingers over the release disc to compress the roll holder sufficiently to clear the mounting support and insert it into the support recesses. The procedure is merely reversed for removal of the roll holder when it is time to add a new roll of tissue to the roll holder. The invention finds particular usefulness with persons of impaired dexterity or other infirmities. The release disc is installed without any required tools or modifications to the current roll holder assembly.

  • Patent number: 6386194
Abstract: The invention relates to a masonry fireplace and a masonry fireplace log box fitted with a door (interior or exterior) or doors (both interior and exterior) that permits firewood to be loaded into the log box without need to carry wood through the interior of the home. Many masonry fireplaces that are constructed in new homes include a built-in log box (or firewood box) as part of the masonry structure. The log box consists of a recessed chamber with sufficient depth to allow a supply of firewood to be stored convenient to the fireplace without need to stack the wood on the hearth or the floor near the fireplace (or stove insert). With the present invention, the firewood is stocked into the log box from the exterior of the home and removed as needed from the interior opening of the log box. In the case of the single interior or exterior door, the door is insulated for energy efficiency and fitted with a locking mechanism to prevent entry by an intruder.

  • Patent number: 5899026
Abstract: The disclosure relates to building construction flashing materials that are presented in both liquid and solid form and is useful in new building construction as well as retrofit procedures. The liquid form is comprised of a silicone base which has been reformulated to improve its flowability and self-leveling qualities allowing it to be applied by brush, pump or spray apparatus. It can be used alone or it can serve as a complementary effective moisture barrier when used with the solid form of the elastomeric flashing materials. The solid form of the elastomeric flashing materials can be extruded sheet material, formed specialty accessories, and/or a readily formable metallic substrate material which has been completely coated with the reformulated liquid silicone, resulting in a highly bendable, formable and shape retaining flashing component.

  • Patent number: 5772581
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a penlight laryngoscope which is particularly useful by veterinarians in the examination of many animals. It finds use in long nosed animals as well as smaller animals such as squirrels, rabbits and other small species. The penlight is removable from the instrument permitting autoclave sterilization. The instrument includes a barrel portion for receiving the light source, a middle blade portion which has a concave surface and a flat terminal end portion. The concave portion provides a reflective surface to illuminate the area under examination and also adds strength to the blade. The flat terminal end has tapered sides which permit the pushing aside of the cheeks of small animals for examining their molars. The penlight laryngoscope also finds use in the examination of humans.

  • Patent number: 5693245
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an integral electric range surface burner control switch user interface made up of two components. The first component, which controls the burner temperature setting, is a standard knob which is rotated to turn the burner on, as well as set the desired temperature of the particular surface burner. The second component is a timer control ring integrally mounted around the surface burner temperature control knob. The timer control ring is concentric with and has the same central axis as the surface burner temperature control knob, and is rotatable to set the desired cooking time for the particular surface burner. When the selected amount of time expires, the power to the surface burner element is automatically disconnected and the surface burner is disabled, thus requiring a resetting of the timer for further use.

  • Patent number: 5558027
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a retractable caster assembly for use on large safes weighing in the 1000 pound range and above. The caster assembly utilizes a plurality of retractable casters which can be lowered to permit moving a safe from one place to another. Once the safe has been moved to its desired location, the caster assembly is raised while the safe is simultaneously lowered to the building floor. The caster assembly eliminates the need for specialized equipment to move the safe. Once the safe is lowered and the caster assembly is retracted, it is totally hidden from view, thus preventing the unauthorized movement of the safe since access to the caster assembly is only available when the safe door is open.

  • Patent number: 5162083
Abstract: The disclosure pertains to a method and apparatus for converting a standard anaerobic septic tank system to an aerobic system where the effluent discharged has a high level of quality, sufficient to meet or exceed all known national and state standards. The method provides a series of steps that are used to convert a pre-existing anaerobic septic tank to a highly efficient aerobic system. Additionally, there has been provided an apparatus for individual home wastewater treatment that is designed for new construction units. The conversion and new construction units are highly effective in geographical regions where the native soils have inadequate percolating capacity and also areas in which the groundwater table is very near the surface. Both of these units include an aeration and a clarifier insert with the capability of adding an optional chlorine chamber which dispenses chlorine into the effluent line in its final stages.
