  • Patent number: 6122356
Abstract: A state machine space for concurrent state machines is provided for use in a telecommunications system. Specialized data structures and processes are used to normalize and control data and events dynamically in the telecommunications system. A Universal Data Structure (UDS) provides data uniformity and represents an event in the telecommunications system. Universal State Machines (USMs) use the UDS as a way for the system architect to dynamically alter how the events are handled. The USMs are designed to function concurrently with other USMs without requiring explicit knowledge of other USMs or their functionality. The present invention includes definitions for sub-spaces of the state machine space in terms of (1) a subset of all the USM definitions in the state machine space, (2) a set of sub-space-specific function interface definitions that correspond with functions that may be called by the USMs in that space and (3) a set of rules for activation.

  • Patent number: 6115608
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing seamless transfer of a active call between cellular communication systems operating in different signal formats and different modes of handoff request initiation. An example being a mobile initiated CDMA/FDMA/TDMA system like IS-661 and a TDMA/FDMA network initiated system like PCS 1900. The system which initiates handoff requests internally is aware of all the IDs of all the BTSs of the other communication system with which it is to interact and the MSs monitors signals of both formats for maintaining a table of received signals from nearby cells, the cell IDs and signal quality, while maintaining an active call and the further ability to transmit a handover request on a command channel while in the active call mode.

Abstract: A display screen manager and management method is disclosed, along with a storage and management system, media, computer and terminal incorporating the same. The disclosed screen manager will be capable of accessing a plurality of screen objects, each defining at least one screen displayable on a display unit of a terminal or device. Each screen object will include both data and procedures for painting the actual screen, defining the role of any softkeys, and handling user input and other messages directed to the screen object while it is being displayed to the user. The screen manager will also include a stack data structure for retaining the active screen object at the top of the stack (i.e. the screen object defining the active screen being displayed) as well as dormant (i.e. previously active and unretired) screen objects invoked as the user interacts with the terminal. Dormant screen objects will also be retained in the stack positioned in an invocation order as the user traverses the screen hierarchy.

  • Patent number: 6094580
Abstract: Provided herein is a computer-implemented method for generating an optimized cellular-network cell-site plan for an area. A plurality of cellular-traffic demand nodes distributed across the area is provided. Each cellular-traffic demand node of the plurality of cellular-traffic demand nodes has an associated weighting characteristics set. The plurality of nodes are consolidated into a plurality of centroids. Each centroid represents a number of nodes that come within a traffic threshold. A potential cell site is positioned on each of the centroids. Each potential cell site has an associated base-transmitter-station parameter characteristics set. The demand node coverage of each potential cell site is determined with respect to a signal strength of the potential cell site. From the plurality of potential cell sites a minimized cell-site subset is selected while maintaining sufficient cellular service coverage of the plurality of demand nodes.

  • Patent number: 6088578
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for increasing the efficiency of usage of an assigned rf spectrum used by a cellular or wireless communication system for a large number of high speed data transfer user requests. An MS, upon analyzing a plurality of parameters available to the MS may determine that although it needs more than a single channel to accommodate a given software data generating application, it may adequately and optimally use less than the maximum number of channels (or maximum data rate) that the MS can support. The MS then generates a request to the base station for additional channels (or a supplemental channel of a higher data rate) to transmit in one data burst a specified total number of quantity of data. The request may also specify the maximum number of channels (or maximum data rate) that the MS can support along with an indication of relative priority by means of indicating the amount of time over which the burst occur as an optimum situation for the MS.

Abstract: A method for optimizing spectral re-use between an interferer digital phase modulated cellular system and a desirable analog phase modulated cellular system is disclosed wherein an optimal guard band to use with adjacent channel interference is determined, or an optimal guard zone to use with co-channel interference is determined. This is achieved by determining the effect of interference due to a digital phase modulated signal at the baseband of a desired analog phase modulated signal. By the use of this invention, the capacity of a desired system and/or the quality of a service provided by a desired system may be enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6060141
Abstract: A system for framing a canopy has a carrier sheet and a coating of adhesive deposited onto the carrier sheet. A transparent film is cast over the coating of adhesive, and the film defines a plurality of slits configured for forming frames or masks which conform to the shape of the canopy. Alternatively, in a method for framing a canopy having interior and exterior sides, a first coat of paint having a first color is applied onto a first side of a transparent film, and a second coat of paint having a second color is applied onto the first coat of paint. A second side of the film is then adhered to the exterior side of the canopy so that the first coat of paint is visible on the interior side of the canopy, and the second coat of paint is visible on the exterior side of the canopy.

  • Patent number: 6055433
Abstract: A data processing system implements a load balancing methodology which recognizes the effects that multiple, mobile subscribers have within a wireless communications network. During execution of this load balancing methodology, a rehoming operation is executed at a telephone central office to move some subscribers in a network to a new home mobile switching center with a minimum number of rehoming steps. To perform this rehoming operation, a mobile switching center in a network which has a highest load is selected first. Mobile switching centers which have a load lower than a network average load are considered to be candidates for a rehome destination. All subscriber groups homed to the highest loaded mobile switching center are evaluated to determine whether or not a rehoming operation using this subscriber group would provide a highest benefit and give a lowest standard deviation of loads among mobile switching centers after the rehome operation is selected.
