  • Patent number: 4939519
Abstract: An analog-to-digital converter includes a constant current source that alternately charges and discharges the capacitor between predetermined levels. The difference between the rate of charging and the rate of discharging of the capacitor provide information permitting a digital representation of the input signal. The single current source operates without change during the charging and discharging of the capacitor and has temperature compensation that eliminates potential errors due to instabilities in the ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4861648
Abstract: The invention provides a stratiform press sheet useful in laminating three-dimensional flexible printed circuits on a flat bed press, the sheet having a median conformable layer comprising a polymeric thermoplastic film; a polymeric release layer; a stabilizing layer made of a sheet of metal foil; and adhesive means to bond the above components in a single, stratiform sheet. The metal foil is functional at both the conventional lower laminating temperatures and the higher temperatures approaching 600 degrees F., and accordingly by careful selection of the other components it is possible to provide unified stratiform press pad sheets accommodating a wide range of laminating temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4857400
Abstract: An article of manufacture and method for assisting the lamination of printed circuits in a flat bed press, in which a stratiform sheet has a thermoplastic layer, a polymeric release layer on one side, a polymeric stabilizing layer having a melting point higher than the laminating temperature peak on the other side, both bonded to the middle thermoplastic layer which has a glass transition point lower than the laminating temperature peak, and a melting point higher than the peak, and the sheet is characterized by substantial freedom from creases, trapped gases, and contaminants between the layers, and the improved method using the stratiform sheet in a flat bed press operation.

  • Patent number: 4854921
Abstract: Variable speed operation for the accessories of a prime mover (such as an engine) is obtained by a flat belt coupling a variable diameter flat belt driving pulley to flat belt pulleys attached to each of the accessories. The variable diameter pulley assembly includes a shaft and a pair of pulley sheaves each having a pair of relatively movable guideway disks lying alongside each other. Inner and outer guideway disks of each pair include, respectively, first and second series of spiral guideways extending in opposite directions such that the guideway intersections locate bearing ends of a circumferential array of belt engaging elements extending between the pulley sheaves. Thus, mutual angular change between the guideway disks causes corresponding change in the effective diameter of the pulley assembly.

  • Patent number: 4854089
Abstract: A bifocal contact lens is disclosed, having a posterior surface with a base curve, and an anterior surface having a distance vision curve defining a distance vision optical zone and a near vision curve defining a near vision optical zone. A first prism component is incorporated into the base curve. A second prism component is incorporated into the distance vision curve. A process for manufacturing the bifocal contact lens by lathe cutting is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4768996
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission of the type employing a flat belt extending between driving and driven pulley assemblies, each having a circumferential array of radially adjustable belt engaging elements, is disclosed in conjunction with a self-energized control system for establishing the instantaneous radial position of the belt engaging elements. The radial positions of the belt engaging elements of each pulley assembly depend upon the angular relationship between inner and outer guideway disk structures carrying logarithmic spiral guideways oriented in the opposite sense, the resulting intersections of the spiral guideways supporting bearing regions at the ends of the belt engaging elements. Each pulley assembly includes a power consuming element, such as an oil pump, which is coupled through differential gearing, such as a harmonic drive, to the inner and outer guideway disks and to the power consuming element.

  • Patent number: 4756440
Abstract: An anti-spill drinking cup lid flexes inwardly, without the use of a vent hole, responsive to drinking suction applied by the cup user. The flexing is by means of a central raised portion of the lid, separated by a flex line from radiating ribs which separate slightly to enlarge the cup lid diameter when liquid is withdrawn through a raised drinking spout provided with apertures sized to prevent passage of liquid. The apertures are located in a valley in the spout end to prevent splash leakage.
