  • Patent number: 5825630
Abstract: A computer baseboard providing localized support for high pin count, high density components. The baseboard includes a first circuit board capable of supporting low pin count electrical components. The first circuit board has a surface onto which the low pin count electrical components are mounted, and an area to which a second, smaller, circuit board is connected in a parallel arrangement with the first circuit board. The second circuit board has a first surface onto which high pin count electrical components are mounted, and a second surface physically and electrically connected to the area on said first substrate. The first and second circuit boards together provide support for electrical components having higher pin counts and densities than the first circuit board can support individually, such as high performance microprocessors and chipsets.

  • Patent number: 5826079
Abstract: A method for assigning processes to processors within a multi-processor computer system employing a sleep/wakeup facility whereby a first process requiring information from a second process is placed into a "sleep" state by said computer system until said second process is able to provide said required information, said first process thereupon being awakened by said computer system so that said first process may continue processing with the required information. The method comprising the steps of identifying a pair of processes which frequently exchange wakeup requests, and assigning the processes within the pair of processes to the same processor within the multi-processor computer system for execution.

  • Patent number: 5826045
Abstract: An arbitration parking apparatus and method for a split transaction bus is provided. Processor agent(s) and memory agent(s) are connected by a split transaction bus which includes an arbiter to control access to the split transaction bus. The arbitration parking scheme includes parking a memory agent if there is an outstanding request. If there is no outstanding request and neither a processor nor memory agent request, then the arbiter parks either a memory agent or a processor agent depending on system characteristics. By parking the agent to request access to the split transaction bus next, arbitration overhead is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5746522
Abstract: An apparatus for reinking a printing ribbon which includes a tank for ink fitted with a ball which, when rotated, transfers a quantity of ink to a sheathed wheel which in turn transfers this ink to a gear through which the ribbon travels and absorbs the ink is provided. An inked printing ribbon cassette including the reinking apparatus is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5718031
Abstract: A method for consistently inserting pads into ribbons cassettes and a plunger for performing such method are provided. The specially designed plunger insures each pad is subject to the same amount of compression upon insertion into the reinker housing walls of each ribbon cassette. Since each pad is subject to the same amount of compression, each pad consistently absorbs the same quantity of ink without pooling.

  • Patent number: 5711831
Abstract: A system and method for producing a form and label combination product with a reduced tendency to curl is provided. Paper stock forms the form and label face while liner stock covers the hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive. A dryer dries the paper stock so the combined paper stock and liner expand substantially the same amount when reaching moisture equilibrium with the environment and have a reduced tendency to curl.
