  • Patent number: 5100523
Abstract: An interposed layer of amorphous carbon promotes the adhesion between conductive substrates and electrochemically deposited polymers. Such a carbon layer may be deposited directly onto the conductive substrate by conventional methods such as, for example, chemical vapor deposition. The subsequently applied electrochemically deposited polymer adheres more tenaciously to the amorphous carbon coating than if it had been electrodeposited directly onto the conductive substrate.

  • Patent number: 5092725
Abstract: A two member threaded fastener includes integral ribs and/or locking fingers formed concentrically around threaded portions of the two members which make up each fastener. The ribs and/or locking fingers interferingly interengage one another as the two members are threadedly intermated to either removably or permanently lock the members together as desired for a given application. Preferably, the locking fastener members are formed of a polymeric resin and include concentric annular rings which are spaced from the threaded portions of the fastener members by interconnecting webs and define axially extending ribs. The ribs are rounded and preferably sinusoidal for removably locking fastener members and are serrated for permanently locking fastener members.

  • Patent number: 5091003
Abstract: Indicia is permanently affixed to a glass article utilizing a low viscosity silver nitrate-containing thermal diffusion ink composition which is applied in a predetermined pattern to the surface of the glass article by a non-contact ink jet printer. Subsequently, the glass article having the ink thereon is heated to a temperature and for a time, sufficient to cause silver ions from the ink to diffuse into the glass article to color the glass and form indicia substantially conforming to the originally applied predetermined pattern.

  • Patent number: 5069046
Abstract: A ball bearing type roller cylinder assembly is disclosed comprising a center shaft having a free end. The shaft may, for example, be held in a mounting fixture. A spindle concentric with the center shaft is fixed on its free end. A roller cylinder housing the spindle comprises a cylindrical outer skirt, a first end cap which cooperates with a first end surface of the spindle to form a first ball bearing race, and a second end cap which cooperates with the second end of the spindle to form a second ball bearing race. The roller cylinder is freely rotatable and contacts the spindle only indirectly through the ball bearings. Preferred emobodiments of the roller cylinder assembly are suitable for use alone or in sets in high temperature applications, particularly in glass fabrication systems for hot press forming heated sheets of glass.

  • Patent number: 5004284
Abstract: An apparatus and method for supporting a sheet of glass contemplates a first support element, having a flat, circular support surface with a diameter of between approximately 0.125 inch and 0.25 inch, and a second support element, having a sharp support edge. The support elements are themselves supported such that the first and second support elements are urged toward each other. By this arrangement, the flat support surface of the first support element is brough into contact with a first side of a sheet of glass, and the sharp support edge of the second support element is brough into contact with a second side of a sheet of glass. A pair of stop elements are provided on the support elements for limiting the movement of the first and second support elements, such that when the glass is heated, the sharp support edge will dig into the surface of the glass only to a predetermined depth of approximately between 0.005 inch and 0.020 inch.

  • Patent number: 4974532
Abstract: Apparatus for spray coating a first portion of a workpiece with a coating material while masking a second portion of the workpiece bordering the first portion, so as to preclude coating of the second portion, includes a spray nozzle for spraying the coating material onto the workpiece, apparatus for moving the spray nozzle with respect to the workpiece so as to coat the workpiece along the first portion, and a mask arrangement for preventing sprayed coating material from contacting the workpiece beyond the first portion. The mask arrangement includes a rotatable mask, mounted on the spray nozzle, for translational movement therewith. The rotatable mask has an edge which moves along the workpiece adjacent the border between the first and second portions. The mask arrangement further includes a motor for rotating the mask as the mask moves with the means for spraying, so as to bring clean portions of the mask into proximity with the border.
