  • Patent number: 5705860
Abstract: A vehicle passenger information system, for example an inflight entertainment system, has a combination of improvements for reducing electromagnetic interference ("EMI") and electrostatic discharge ("ESD"). A microprocessor based system controller has a system controller chassis with a first conductive EMI shield layer, a low impedance aircraft chassis ground path directly electrically connected to the shield layer and to controller components. Additionally, a display unit has a chassis with a second conductive EMI shield layer enclosing a plurality of PCBs directly electrically connected to the shield layer. The display unit supports are grounded through a plurality of system connectors penetrating the display chassis and a low impedance display unit ground path directly electrically connects the two shield layers. A method of decreasing the EMI and ESD susceptibility of, and the levels of radiated EMI from, a vehicle entertainment system is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5691737
Abstract: An exhibit explaining system to enable a plurality of visitors to receive an explanation of an exhibit at their own pace. Spectacle-type displays 51-1 to 51-10 are provided, the frequencies f1 to f10 of a carrier wave being set to be different from each other. Image generating devices 61-1 to 61-10 are provided to correspond to the spectacle-type displays 51-1 to 51-10. When operating explanation request button 52-1 of the spectacle-type display 51-1, a VTR 76-1 of the image generating device 61-1 with the corresponding channel is reproduced, which is output from a transmitter-receiver circuit 72-1 to the spectacle-type display 51-1 through an antenna 71-1 on a radio wave. In the spectacle-type display 51-1, this radio wave is demodulated to observe an image on an LCD thereof.

  • Patent number: 5675389
Abstract: A television receiver such as a high definition television (HDTV) receiver and method for receiving a character broadcasting signal, wherein the number of scanning lines used to display character information contained in the character broadcasting signal is varied so as to fully display this character information on a television screen. The television receiver for displaying the character information includes a character broadcasting decoder for decoding a character broadcasting signal; a display for displaying a picture in response to a television signal on which the character broadcasting signal has been superimposed; a video signal amplifier circuit for changing the number of scanning lines used to display the picture on the display means; and data storage RAM for moving the scanning line position where character information by the character broadcasting signal is to be displayed based upon the number of the scanning lines changed by the video signal amplifier circuit.

  • Patent number: 5668805
Abstract: A multiplex broadcasting method and system which limits an object district for broadcasting of district information such as a commercial message relating closely to the district is disclosed. On the broadcasting station side, multiplex data such as animation are broadcast with a district code such as a postal code number added thereto. On the receiving set side, a district code of the location is registered as an identification number of the multiplex broadcast receiving set in a memory in advance, and the district code of received multiplex data separated by a data extraction circuit and the identification number stored in the memory are compared with each other. Only when they coincide with each other, an image corresponding to the received multiplex data is displayed on the receiving set.

  • Patent number: 5664052
Abstract: A method and a device for discriminating a voiced sound from an unvoiced sound or background noise in speech signals are disclosed. Each block or frame of input speech signals is divided into plural sub-blocks and the standard deviation, effective value or the peak value is detected in a detection unit for detecting statistical characteristics from one sub-block to another. A bias detection unit detects a bias on the time scale of the standard deviation, effective value or the peak value to decide whether the speech signals are voiced or unvoiced from one block to another.

  • Patent number: 5646608
Abstract: Each of plural electronic devices, e.g., a television receiver, a video disc player, a video tape recorder, an audio amplifier, and a compact disc player which are placed in an audiovisual room has a light emitter and a light detector. Identification signals corresponding to the respective electronic devices are outputted from the light emitters thereof to a single remote control unit. When the remote control unit detects the identification signals, the remote control unit displays on its display unit information required to selectively operate the electronic devices corresponding to the detected identification signals. The remote control unit displays only the information relative to the electronic devices disposed in the audiovisual room. The single remote control unit can control the plural electronic devices in the audiovisual room.

  • Patent number: 5625633
Abstract: A resonator length can reliably be set in its locked state in the laser light generating apparatus having the resonator. The laser light generating apparatus has a nonlinear optical crystal device disposed in the resonator, at least one of reflection devices composing the resonator can be moved by an actuator to lock the resonator length with the frequency of the fundamental wave laser light. A sample-held resonator length error signal and a resonator reflected light intensity signal are used as the setting signal when the resonator length is locked by the frequency of the fundamental wave laser light.

  • Patent number: 5594499
Abstract: Analog-to-digital conversion and the CIF format conversion are performed by the video camera whose pixel number is an integral multiple or its reciprocal of that of the CIF. Therefore, it is not necessary to employ the line interpolation circuit using a large-sized memory, so that the circuit arrangement of the television conference system, the video-telephone system and so on using the codec can be simplified and the production costs thereof can be reduced. Since the video camera output is digital, even if the sampled phase fluctuates, the compression efficiency in the codec (or the coder) is prevented from being lowered and the compression efficiency can be improved.
