  • Patent number: 4471779
Abstract: Improved detachment and sealing mechanism for a balloon catheter assembly utilized in diagnostic and therapeutic environments in connection with very small human vessels. The assembly is of the type including a resilient elongated catheter having means at one end for attachment to a source of pressurized fluid. A small inflatable tubular balloon is detachably connected at the other end of the cannula and is in fluid communication therewith. The detachment and sealing mechanism includes a self-sealing plug positioned in the balloon adjacent the end of the cannula. A circumferential band is on the outer surface of the inflatable balloon in concentric position with respect to the plug.

  • Patent number: 4270702
Abstract: An adjustable orifice fluid knife utilizing a fluid such as air and including a supporting structure adapted to be connected to a source of fluid. A passage network is on the supporting structure terminating in an opening for transmittal of fluid from the fluid source and out of the opening. A nozzle assembly is on the supporting structure in alignment with the opening for directing the flow of fluid therefrom in a controlled high velocity stream capable of acting as a knife. The nozzle assembly includes a fixed plate on one side of the opening at a predetermined angle with respect to the opening. A bar assembly is on the opposite side of the opening and includes an adjustable blade on the bar assembly responsive to adjustment structure to be angularly shifted with respect to the opening and the fixed plate to a variety of different positions along its length thereby providing for a range of orifice sizes along the length of the blade in alignment with the opening for passage of fluid therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4267847
Abstract: A method for obtaining a smoking material additive which is a smoke-aroma precursor comprises the steps of removing surface gum, preferably surface gum only, from Nicotinia plant leaves or flowers and subjecting the gum to a partition or purification process whereby a diterpene fraction constituting the said precursor and a fraction containing undesirable lipids are obtained, the latter fraction being discarded. The gum may be removed by solvent washing, suitably with chloroform. The partition or purification step may be a two-phase solvent partition process, for example using a hexane/aqueous methanol system.

  • Patent number: 4265164
Abstract: A pressure detecting device for detecting air pressure by means of a pressure receiving member which is energized by a coil spring, wherein a seal is provided between the side wall of the detector housing at the pressure detecting port side and the pressure receiving member as well as between the other side wall of the housing at the discharge port side and the pressure receiving member and further sealing area at the discharge port side is larger than that at the pressure detecting port side.As a preferred application of the pressure detecting device a control system for a press machine is constructed such that operation and stop of the press machine are controlled by way of controlling supply and discharge of pressurized air to and from the press machine with the aid of a double valve and the pressure detecting device.

  • Patent number: 4262394
Abstract: The invention relates to a quarter-turn fastener for fastening a panel to a support, the fastener comprising an integrally moulded plastics stud having a head and a shank. The shank extends in use through elongate slots in the panel and support and is formed by a pair of depending resilient legs each of which has at its end remote from the head a transverse flange for engaging the rear surface of the support adjacent the slot in which the stud is mounted. Each leg includes an abutment arranged to engage the side of the slot in the support or in the panel after rotation of the stud through substantially a quarter of a turn to prevent further rotation in the same sense.

  • Patent number: 4258679
Abstract: A device for controlling the lubricating oil temperature of a combustion engine having an oil container for the oil supply of the lubricating oil cycle of the combustion engine and an oil catch basin provided for receiving the return flow of the oil. The catch basin has a smaller volume than the oil container and communicates with the oil container by means of a thermostatically controlled valve. An oil pump communicates with the oil container and/or with the oil catch basin depending upon the position of the valve. A suction device is located at an intermediate chamber at the lowest point of the oil catch basin and communicates with the oil catch basin at low temperature by means of the thermostatically controlled valve positioned in the intermediate chamber and communicates with the oil container during operating temperature.
