Abstract: A counting device for a battery operated appliance for visually displaying on a counter dial the number of uses of the appliance between recharging or replacement of the batteries. The counter dial is mounted within the appliance with an indicia portion visible at the outer surface of the casing. Movement of the dial is controlled by operation of the on/off switch for the appliance and a reset wheel is included for restoring the counter dial to an "0" or starting position.

Abstract: A cutter head assembly for a foil type electric dry shaver wherein the outer cutter foil is provided with a plurality of bowed arcuate outer cutting surfaces and wherein the inner cutter assembly comprises a balanced arrangement of individual blade members each having a plurality of arcuate cutting edges for engagement with the undersurface of the bowed arcuate outer cutting foil.

Abstract: An airstream is established and flows about a resistance heater element in an electrical appliance. The heater element is energized by a cyclical potential. A temperature control circuit is provided which includes a switch connected in series with a heat sensor for applying the cyclical potential to the heater. A half-wave rectifier in the control circuit is electrically connected in series with the switch and across the heat sensor. Energization of the heater heats the airstream to an operating temperature T.sub.1. The heat sensor is operable to detect an undesired increase in temperature above a safe limit temperature T.sub.2 which is greater than T.sub.1. At a temperature greater than T.sub.2 the heat sensor automatically opens the series circuit to interrupt energization of the heater. During the open circuit condition of the heat sensor the half-wave rectifier is operable for applying half-cycles of the cyclical potential to the heater.

Abstract: A cutter head assembly for an electric dry shaver including a cutter unit for shearing long facial or body hairs comprising an elongated U-shaped cutter member having a deep central longitudinally extending hair receiving channel. Combing teeth are provided along the upper edges of the channel for combing long hairs into longitudinal openings in the opposite sides of the channel for shearing by the teeth of a movable cutter and which teeth are maintained in cutting communication with the undersurface of the combing teeth.

Abstract: Auxiliary trimmer unit for an electric dry shaver comprising a stationary and a movable cutter wherein the movable cutter is provided with spaced dual cutting surfaces. A guard unit is provided for the trimmer unit and means are provided to permit shifting of the guard alternately from a position where a first of the cutting surfaces of the trimmer is covered and a second position where the first cutting surface is exposed.

Abstract: A heater assembly for an electrical appliance such as a portable hair dryer. The heater assembly includes an elongated flexible foil resistance element having opposite longitudinal edge portions mounted on spaced disc support members. T-shaped tabs extend from the foil edges and are seated in recessed portions or notches located in the periphery of the discs with the T-end portions thereof locked to the discs by detent means provided on the discs.

Abstract: A portable hair dryer comprising an elongated casing of circular transverse cross-section and including a handle portion at one end an air discharge nozzle portion at the opposite end and an enlarged diameter intermediate section housing operative elements comprising a heater element and a motor driven fan for generating heated output air which is drawn from input air circulated by the fan through the heater element and outwardly through a discharge orifice provided in the nozzle portion. The motor, fan and heater element are supported on a common support member which is mounted on a single support element which comprises a base portion of the intermediate casing section which extends from the handle portion. The handle portion is separated from the base portion of said intermediate section by air intake vents through which said input air is drawn and in which handle is housed the switch and circuit control elements of the appliance.

Abstract: A hand-held portable electrical skin treatment appliance and particularly for use in the care of facial skin wherein the appliance is provided with means for detachably mounting various skin treatment devices to a rotary drive output. The attachment device is provided with self-contained motion translating means for converting the rotary drive output orbital movement of the skin treatment device to enhance the massaging or cleansing effects to the skin of the user.

Abstract: An improved hair treatment method and device is described which provides for causing pulsatons to occur in an air stream which is utilized for hair treatment. The pulsatons operate to fluff the hair while the hair is simultaneously treated by the air stream.

Abstract: A mounting arrangement for securing a flexible foil outer cutter to an electric dry shaver housing in operative relationship relative to a driven inner cutter. The outer cutter foil is arranged within a frame hinged to the upper portion of the shaver casing. The spaced opposite ends of the foil are provided with portions having integral spring detent tabs for detachably locking engagement in slots provided in the frame for securing the foil thereto.

Abstract: A drive assembly for a movable cutter of an electric dry shaver and which assembly includes a driven member detachably mounted on a motor operated oscillator arm. The driven member includes a rectangular plate having means supporting a plurality of cutter bars in engagement with the under surface of an outer cutter. The plate is supported on the oscillator arm by a spring urged cap member which is disposed over the oscillator arm and causes the inner cutter to be placed in cutting cooperation with the outer cutter.

Abstract: An electric dry shaver is disclosed having an improved outer cutter which is rotatably repositionable or readily demountable by the user for cleaning hair debris from a hair chamber of the shaver.

Abstract: An electric power switch arrangement for a hand-held, portable electrical appliance is disclosed which provides improved positive, mechanical switch detenting. A mount for the switch comprises a receptacle having integrally formed fingers for gripping and captivating the switch.

Abstract: A trimmer device for an electric dry shaver is disclosed having a trimmer cutter assembly which is mounted for rotation between operative and inoperative positions on the shaver. The trimmer cutter is biased to an operative position. A latch and release for securing the assembly in an inoperative position and for releasing the assembly to an operative position comprises a resilient latch body and a cantilever support for the latch body which positions the latch body in a path of travel of the rotatable assembly. A catch is provided for effecting and maintaining engagement between the latch body and the assembly and for effecting disengagement upon tactile actuation thereof.

Abstract: A cutter head assembling tool for use with an electric shaver having a cutter head of the type which includes inner and outer cutters, each of which is provided with hair shearing edges, and wherein the inner cutter is insertable into the outer cutter. The tool has a body portion, a handle portion and a stop portion, and is used to facilitate inserting the inner cutter into the outer cutter without damaging the hair shearing edges. In a shaver having cutters with hair shearing teeth; when inserting the inner cutter into the outer cutter the tool is held against the inner cutter with one side of the body portion resting on the toothed wall of the inner cutter, and with the stop portion urged against an end of the inner cutter. After partial insertion, the handle portion of the tool is grasped to thrust the stop portion toward the outer cutter to insert the tool's body portion into the outer cutter along with the inner cutter.
