Abstract: The present invention provides an adjustable airfoil mountable to a vehicle and movable from a first position to a second position. The invention further includes an actuator device coupled to the adjustable airfoil to selectively move the airfoil from the first position to the second position and operatively coupled to a vehicle brake system so that the actuator device is able to receive a signal pertaining to operation of the vehicle brake system, wherein the actuator device moves the adjustable airfoil as a function of the signal. In an embodiment of the present invention, the adjustable airfoil further comprises a remote control device operably coupled to the actuator to provided a second signal, wherein the actuator device also moves the adjustable airfoil as a function of the second signal. In another embodiment, a method is disclosed for operating an adjustable airfoil as just described.
Abstract: Formants, corresponding to input speech units based either on a known text or the results of a speech recognition procedure, are generated from a formant synthesizer. A frequency response is generated based on the synthesized formants. A second frequency response is generated based on a speech signal which is received and which corresponds to utterances of speech units. The synthesized formants are modified based on a comparison of the frequency response corresponding to the synthesized formants and specific proportional characteristics of a frequency response of the input speech signal. In one illustrative embodiment, the comparison is then recalculated and further modifications are made accordingly to improve accuracy. In one illustrative embodiment, time aligning and frequency warping are utilized as modification functions.
Abstract: A climbing structure includes a first strut having an elongate portion, a first end portion and a transition portion between the elongate portion and the first end portion. The transition portion has a reduced thickness relative to the first end portion. A connection member has first and second connectable plates defining a first cavity. The first cavity is sized to receive and secure the first end portion therein.
Abstract: An implantable medical device for at least partially closing a neck portion of a vascular aneurysm is disclosed. The treatment device includes a collapsible neck bridge having a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration. The treatment device also includes an actuation mechanism operably attached to the collapsible neck bridge and configured to covert the collapsible neck bridge between the delivery configuration, wherein the actuation mechanism has an elongated form, and the deployed configuration, wherein the actuation mechanism has a constricted form.
Abstract: The device comfortably supports the hand of the user while the thumb and fingers are associated with keys, a trackball, and a scrolling wheel carried on the device. The overall configuration of the device and the arrangement of these actuators permits the user to operate all of the functions provided by the actuators while the forearm is in a neutral posture zone between pronation and supination of the forearm, and the wrist and fingers are minimally extended and comfortably flexed, respectively.
