  • Patent number: 8340132
Abstract: A method of transmitting data, whereby the data is transmitted by using a multiple access frame divided in logical slots. Each data packet is divided into k units which are decoded by an (n,k) decoder, producing n?k redundant units. The n units are transmitted within a multiple access frame in n different slots according to a time-hopping pattern, a frequency-hopping pattern or a combination of both. At the receiver side lost or corrupted data packets are recovered by using the redundant units, whereby the presence of a unit for each slot is detected. If a unit is present in a slot and has been transmitted without collisions, this unit is recovered. If a sufficient k+? amount of units composing a data packet is recovered, the packet level decoder is used to recover the remaining n?k?? units which experienced collisions in the respective slots.

  • Patent number: 8341415
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for generating or using augmentation queries. In one aspect, a set of phrase terms of a phrase are received in first ordinal positions, and a set of first hashes for each of the phrase terms. Concatenated hashes from the set of first hashes are generated. Hashes of content terms for received content are compared to the concatenated hashes to determine if a phrase is detected in the content.

  • Patent number: 8306024
Abstract: This invention includes tools that prevent forwarding of a packet to a control plane of a packet switch. The tools receive a packet comprising indicia suggesting that the packet be forwarded to a control plane of a packet switch. After receiving the packet, the tools may modify the packet to prevent the packet from being forwarded to the control plane, intercept the packet before it is received by the control plane, or otherwise prevent the packet from being forwarded to the control plane. The tools may also forward the packet from a source port of a packet switch to a destination port of the packet switch without forwarding the packet to the control plane of the packet switch.

  • Patent number: 8305504
Abstract: The present disclosure includes a configuration of a polarization control system and an algorithm that realize fast polarization controlling and tracking while avoiding the Glitch problems (i.e., loss of polarization tracking). The polarization controller includes multiple stages along with tunable orientation and retardation angles. The retardation angles are initialized to at least two different values for better polarization tracking in normal mode. In a normal mode, only the orientation angles of the polarization controller are dithered. When the monitored error is higher than the threshold, the polarization controller enters a glitch mode, and Glitch detection can be improved through error signal data processing. In the Glitch mode, at least one retardation angle is dithered along with the orientation angles.

  • Patent number: 8306425
Abstract: The present disclosure provides high-degree reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexing (ROADM) systems using bi-directional wavelength selective switches (WSSs) and optical circulators. A single WSS is utilized on each degree of a node in a bi-directional manner, i.e. both ingress and egress share the same WSS. Advantageously, the present invention eliminates conventional splitters/combiners thereby capping intra-node insertion loss to a certain value regardless of the number of degrees. More importantly, the present invention reduces noise penalty associated with high-degree nodes while minimizing cost.

  • Patent number: 8305938
Abstract: To enable an Ethernet ring to be dual homed into a spanning tree protocol controlled Ethernet network, spanning tree control packets (Bridged Protocol Data Units or BPDUs) are transported as data frames over the Ethernet ring. This allows the Ethernet ring to appear as a single link to the spanning tree protocol so that the spanning tree can extend over the link. However, since the spanning tree does not have visibility as to the internal structure of the ring, the spanning tree cannot block links on the Ethernet ring network. Conversely, BPDUs from the Ethernet ring are not transmitted into the Ethernet domain that is implementing the spanning tree, so that the spanning tree is not affected by the control mechanism in place on the Ethernet ring network.

  • Patent number: 8306420
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for real-time, in-service latency measurements over optical links that may be further integrated within various optical control planes. The present invention may utilize minimal unused overhead to calculate latency of an optical line through a transport network. The present invention utilizes timers at two end-point nodes associated with the optical line, and includes a mechanism to filter out frame skew between the nodes. Advantageously, the present invention provides a highly accurate latency measurement that may calculate latency on links as small as one meter, an in-service algorithm operable without network impact, and may be integrated with an optical control plane to automatically provide administrative weight variables associated with link costs.

  • Patent number: 8306438
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to coherent optical receiver systems and methods for determining and correcting for optical angle and magnitude imbalance and for delay imbalance between quadrature paths. The present invention iteratively determines and corrects imbalance error and differential delay entirely in the digital domain (after an analog to digital conversion) in the presence of all the other impairments (polarization mode dispersion, chromatic dispersion, polarization gain imbalance, and polarization delay imbalance) using only the corrupted received signal during normal operation, i.e. without the use of training data. The present invention provides an effective adaptive scheme to drive impairments to zero, without using of any calibration of training, and may be applied during normal operation of the receiver via electrical circuitry or the like.

  • Patent number: 8306039
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and systems for automatic transport path selection for multi-home entities in Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP). The present invention provides systems and methods for directing data transfer between applications and devices residing on different computers or devices using a dynamic path selection algorithm for multi-homed network entities (using SCTP). When an application or device requests to transfer data to another application or device, the dynamic path selection algorithm selects the most efficient path for data transfer. The decision to select the best network path is based upon the dynamic network conditions, such as, for example, congestion window (CWND), round trip time (RTT), and the like, and/or provisioning information.

  • Patent number: 8305884
Abstract: Systems and methods for self-healing Ethernet topologies which are compatible with PBT, which use standards-based protocols, which do not self-configure, and which use Ethernet OAM are provided. Interconnected nodes are configured with a primary and secondary path which is determined by VLANs, MPLS label, Provider Backbone Bridge Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) VLAN ID (VID), Frame Relay (FR), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Virtual Circuits (VCs), and the like. One or more head-end nodes are designated for terminating each path and for performing cross-connects between the primary and secondary paths. IEEE 802.1ag Continuity Check Messages (CCM) are transmitted by all nodes on both the primary and secondary routes. Responsive to a loss of a predetermined number of CCM messages, traffic is switched to the secondary route. In non-fault conditions, both the paths for the primary and secondary routes can carry traffic.

  • Patent number: 8306424
Abstract: The present invention provides a remodulating channel selector for a wavelength division multiplexed optical communication system. The remodulating selector receives a WDM input signal, selects a particular optical channel from the WDM signal and places the information from the selected signal onto a newly-generated optical output signal. The wavelength of the output optical signal can be the same as or different from one of the optical channels which comprises the WDM input signal. When used in a WDM optical communication system with remodulators at the transmission input, the remodulating selectors provide complete control over the interfaces with optical transmitters and receivers, permitting use with a broad range of optical equipment.
