  • Patent number: 5924132
Abstract: Soldiers frequently form a make-shift shelter from a conventional poncho and the make-shift shelter is commonly called a "hootch" by soldiers. The term "hootch" is used here to refer to the portable shelter/garment, including its stuff sack, of this invention. The shelter/garment is made from pliable and waterproof fabric and is provided with snaps and loops along its edges and along its center line. The snaps and loops are used to hold the fabric in position after it has been folded to define a garment such as a poncho or a malke-shift shelter such as an A-frame. The snaps are arranged in such a way that two portable shelter/garments can be joined together to form a tent to shelter two persons. The portable shelter/garment of this invention was developed for use by the military and by hunters and others in need of a portable shelter while engaged in outdoor activities.

  • Patent number: 5921440
Abstract: The multi-compartment container is made from previously formed partial bottles and is preferably made from two "half-bottles" that are individually formed from a pliable plastic with a semicircular wall on one side and a flat wall on the other side, as by blow molding. The two half-bottles are joined together with the flat walls in juxtaposition to define the body portion of the multi-compartment container, with each "half-bottle" serving as one of its compartments or chambers. A cap with a dispenser for each compartment serves as a cover for the container. The pliable plastic from which the container is formed enables a person to squeeze either of the compartments to dispense from one of the compartments or squeeze both compartments to dispense from both compartments. One embodiment of the invention includes a dial-a-matic selection system adapted, but not restricted, to the dispensing of mustard and catsup.

  • Patent number: 5909746
Abstract: In this invention an umbrella with a cover, preferably square or rectangular, is supported on a telescopic shaft by articulated ribs that extend from the shaft beneath the cover. The articulated ribs are connected to auxiliary ribs and both are controlled by guides and stabilizers that extend radially from a reciprocable transfer sleeve on the telescopic shaft and move the ribs and auxiliary ribs to fold the cover inside out as the transfer sleeve is lowered on the shaft, the shaft is shortened, and the umbrella is closed.

  • Patent number: 5845951
Abstract: A lever operated bag holder used to stabilize a plurality of bags being transported. The invention is used to prevent the contents of the bags from being spilled. The device is designed to be used with various sized bags which are equipped with handles such as plastic grocery bags or other bags with handles. A lever device allows the apparatus to be operated with one hand. In the open configuration as viewed from the end the device has the shape similar to an inverted Y. In the closed configuration the invention is relatively flat and suitable for storage. The base has two parts acting as legs that are hinged to a central body. Extending from the top of the body are a plurality of inverted U shape hangers where the bag handles are placed and held together. On the ends of the body are dowel shaped hangers extending upward. In the central area of the invention is located a lever and its operating parts which open and close the apparatus by the use of a handle, rod and hinge sub-assembly.

  • Patent number: 5749149
Abstract: This invention relates to a quilt graphing system that enables a quilter to custom design quilts and appliques. The quilt designing system includes at least one transparent quilt graphing grid and a template. The grid has a plurality of uniform squares with dimensional markings (dots and dashes) on all four sides of each square in the grid. The dimensional markings divide each side of the square into thirds and quarters. So marked, the quilt graphing grid enables the quilt maker to graph in straight lines, extending between the dimensional markings, artwork beneath the transparent grit or artwork graphed directly on the grid. The template is specially designed for use by the quilt maker in marking each square of fabric to correspond with the shape of a specific portion of the selected design, and for cutting the squares of fabric with seams for piecing together the fabric squares to form the selected design.
