Any conventional, manual bumper system can be automatized by minimal reformation.
Abstract: Thorns from plant stems are stripped off by feeding the plant stem between splines. The splines project radially from respective rotary components arranged side by side. The rotary components rotate towards each other as viewed from the opening in the topside of the housing and away from each other as viewed from the opening in the bottomside of the housing. The plant stem having thorns is fed through the topside opening in the housing in a direction toward the bottomside opening to reach a location between said rotary components so that said brush splines swipe against said thorns thereby removing the same from the stem.

Abstract: A megasonic cleaning system utilizes a transducer positioned outside of a cleaning tank to transmit acoustical energy into the cleaning tank. A liquid layer is used to couple the acoustical energy from the transducer to the cleaning tank. An acoustical impedance matching layer, having an acoustical impedance in between that of the transducer and the cleaning fluid, is used to match the impedance of the transducer to that of the cleaning fluid. In one embodiment, the system utilizes at least two transducer arrays and power is switched back and forth between the two arrays. When one array is not being powered, it can be used to listen to the other array.
Abstract: A system for causing uniform ablation of irradiated material of living tissue while not causing damage below a predetermined depth where laser radiation is provided sequentially and continuously in a predetermined pattern is disclosed.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for accurately determining the relative locations of sensors in a passive sonar or like monitoring system utilizes two non-parallel (but not necessarily orthogonal) calibrator signals to calculate the relative positions of sensors in a sensor array. Iteration, using a deformed line array constraint, permits reliable solution of the sensor position equations, even when the relative angle between the calibrator signals is initially unknown.
Abstract: A method of facial rejuvenation is provided in which ablation of an area of skin is accomplished to above the papillary dermis, providing effective permanent smoothness.
Abstract: An interproximal toothbrush and method for cleaning, irrigating and medicating a sub-gingival region with the same are disclosed. The interproximal toothbrush has outer and inner V-shaped portions having outer and inner working surfaces which form intersections at the distal ends from the spines, and bristles extending from the intersections which clean the deeper portions of the sub-gingival region between the teeth and gum. At least one aperture may be provided in at least one of the working surfaces such that irrigation fluid or a medicating, antibacterial or other cleaning agent may be dispensed from the aperture and be guided by the bristles to the sub-gingival region.
Abstract: A method of providing number portability for the treatment of calls from a calling party to a specific number of a called party is disclosed. An Initial Address Message (IAM) containing the calling and called party's numbers to enable said call to reach said terminating office is forwarded from an originating office to a terminating office. Once the IAM is received at the terminating office, a determination of whether the call is directed to a portable number is made. If the call is directed to a portable number, a release message containing an indication that the called party number is, a portable number and containing new routing information is forwarded from the terminating office to the originating office. A new IAM is then sent from the originating office to a terminating office associated with the routing information.
If the call is directed to a portable number, a release message containing an indication that the called party number is a portable number is forwarded from the terminating office to the originating office. Once the release message is received at the originating office, a TCAP query is launched from the originating office to an SCP if said release message contains an indication that the called party number is a portable number. At the SCP, the called party number is translated to obtain new routing information.
Abstract: An instrument chassis is disclosed. The chassis includes a housing with a front opening in a first loading plane, and instrument receiving slots located in the housing. These slots are engageable to printed circuit cards inserted through the front opening. The chassis also includes first and second power supplies. The first power supply is electrically coupled to a first set of instrument receiving slots, and the second power supply is electrically coupled to a second set of the instrument receiving slots. Thus a first set of the printed circuit cards may maintain electrical and mechanical separation and isolation from a second set of the printed circuit cards.
Abstract: A support shaft for a planetary-type selvage unit on a loom is mounted at its proximal end to a drive shaft for the selvage unit in an arrangement swingable between operative and stand-by positions. A locker unit is attached to the support bracket in order to selectively register the same at the operative position during weaving operation. Simple swing motion of the support bracket about the drive shaft produces an enlarged free space above the selvage unit during the looming operation, thereby allowing free transportation of heald frames necessary for the looming operation.
