Abstract: An implementation of a single qubit phase gate for use in a quantum information processing scheme based on the ?=5/2 fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state is disclosed. Using sack geometry, a qubit consisting of two ?-quasiparticles. which may be isolated on respective antidots, may be separated by a constriction from the bulk of a two-dimensional electron gas in the ?=5/2 FQH state. An edge quasiparticle may induce a phase gate on the qubit. The number of quasiparticles that are allowed to traverse the edge path defines which gate is induced. For example, if a certain number of quasiparticles are allowed to traverse the path, then a ?/8 gate may be effected.

Abstract: A wireless communication method and apparatus for encoding and decoding beamforming vectors are disclosed. A base station sends explicit signaling for a beamforming vector of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and implicit signaling for beamforming vectors of interfering WTRUs. Each WTRU uses its own beam forming vector to estimate the beamforming vectors of each of the other WTRUs.

Abstract: A flooring system having a top floor layer, a sub-floor, and an underlayment material disposed between the sub-floor and the top floor layer is disclosed. The underlayment material may include a cross-linked, polyolefin foam having a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than about 3.0 lb/1000 ft2/24 hr, and an average sound pressure level of less than about 15 dB over a range of about 300 Hz to about 1000 Hz. The foam may have a compressive strength of at least about 0.85 kg/cm2. Foam density, gel fraction, and resin blend may combine to provide an underlayment material having such reflective sound and moisture vapor barrier properties.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for encryption and decryption using a quantum computational model is disclosed. Such a method includes providing a model of a lattice having a system of non-abelian anyons disposed thereon. From the lattice model, a first quantum state associated with the lattice is determined. Movement of non-abelian anyons within the lattice is modeled to model formation of first and second quantum braids in the space-time of the lattice. The first quantum braid corresponds to first text. The second quantum braid corresponds to second text. A second quantum state associated with the lattice is determined from the lattice model after formation of the first and second quantum braids has been modeled. The second quantum state corresponds to second text that is different from the first text.

Abstract: A Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) card is disclosed. The PCMCIA card may include a cryptographic module, a communications interface, and a processor. The cryptographic module may perform Type 1 encryption of data received from a computer into which the card is inserted. The cryptographic module may support High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryption (HAIPE). The communications interface may provide connectivity to a network adapter. The communications interface may include a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. The processor may detect whether a network adapter is coupled to the communications interface, identify a device driver that corresponds to the network adapter, and employ the device driver to provide operative communication between the cryptographic module and the network adapter. Abstract: A device may be capable of communicating using at least two type types of modulation methods. The device may include a transceiver capable of acting as a master according to a master/slave relationship in which communication from a slave to a master occurs in response to communication from the master to the slave. The master transceiver may send transmissions discrete transmissions structured with a first portion and a payload portion. Information in the first portion may be modulated according to a first modulation method and indicate an impending change to a second modulation method, which is used for transmitting the payload portion. The discrete transmissions may be addressed for an intended destination of the payload portion.

Abstract: A lid for a drinking cup may include a rim portion and a raised cover portion. The rim portion may be adapted to matingly engage an upper peripheral edge of the drinking cup so as to selectively maintain the lid in a covering relationship on the cup. The raised cover portion may extend from the rim portion, and have a perimeter adapted to impede spillage of liquid over a peripheral edge of the lid. Liquid spilled or released on the cover portion or perimeter portion may drain away from the periphery of the cover portion and into the drinking opening or a recess in the cover portion that is adapted to receive a reclosable tab.
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a method, system, and device for conducting ultrasound interrogation of a medium. The novel method includes transmitting a non-beamformed or beamformed ultrasound wave into the medium, receiving more than one echoed ultrasound wave from the medium, and converting the received echoed ultrasound wave into digital data. The novel method may further transmit the digital data. In some embodiments, the transmitting may be wireless. The novel device may include transducer elements, an analog-to-digital converter in communication with the transducer elements, and a transmitter in communication with the analog-to-digital converter. The transducers may operate to convert a first electrical energy into an ultrasound wave. The first electrical energy may or may not be beamformed. The transducers also may convert an echoed ultrasound wave into a second electrical energy.

Abstract: Apparatus for performing Raman analysis may include a laser source module, a beam delivery and signal collection module, a spectrum analysis module, and a digital signal processing module. The laser source module delivers a laser beam to the beam delivery and signal collection module. The beam delivery and signal collection module delivers the laser source beam to a sample, collects Raman scattered light scattered from the sample, and delivers the collected Raman scattered light to the spectrum analysis module. The spectrum analysis module demultiplexes the Raman scattered light into discrete Raman bands of interest, detects the presence of signal energy in each of the Raman bands, and produces a digital signal that is representative of the signal energy present in each of the Raman bands. The digital signal processing module is adapted to perform a Raman analysis of the sample.
