  • Patent number: 4862918
Abstract: A valved fluid connection apparatus is disclosed. When mounted within an opening of a fluid container, the apparatus seals the fluid inside the container until an actuating barrel is inserted to open a valve which allows fluid to exit from the container. The apparatus is particularly suitable for use in flexible bags containing fluid juice with high pulp content as a fluid pathway with wide clearances is established when the valve is opened.

  • Patent number: 4843725
Abstract: A level for determining whether a surface is horizontal and which can also be used to determine the angular relationship between the surface or a line on the surface and the horizontal. The level utilizes a rotating pendulum designed with a pointer that indicates a direction representing the vertical. The pointer (or vertical indicator) is biased in this position by a weight (or alternatively a float) and it points to scale markings that calibrate the position of the rotating pendulum to correspondingly represent the angular deviation of the surface from the horizontal. The weight and the pointer are attached by a set screw which allows the weight to be pivoted with respect to the pointer so that the center of gravity of the rotating pendulum as a whole can be altered and the direction in which the pointer points can be adjusted for accuracy.

  • Patent number: 4823556
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the growth of the solid phase of a substance from around a cooling mechanism, such as the growth of an ice pack in a water cooling system, while also minimizing chances of inaccurate control by referencing the apparent resistance of the liquid that is actually in the system rather than a standard value. The method also provides for a dead-band by monitoring the resistance of the liquid at two roughly adjacent locations.

  • Patent number: 4821709
Abstract: A high frequency ventilator which generates a high frequency pressure wave in a supply of ventilating gas for supporting ventilation in air breathing animals. The high frequency pressure wave causes the ventilating gas to be exchanged and to diffuse through the animal's lungs fast enough to support ventilation without spontaneous breathing on the part of the animal and without the aid of a separate ventilator.

  • Patent number: 4805612
Abstract: A high frequency oscillating ventilator. A flow of gas is conducted from a gas source to a high frequency oscillator. The high frequency oscillator comprises a housing including a magnet and having a diaphragmetically sealed piston mounted therein, an inlet connecting the space within the housing on the first side of the diaphragm to the gas conducting means, and a coil mounted to the first side of the diaphragm. Circuitry is provided which is operable to reverse the polarity of the flow of the current in the coil, thereby causing the diaphragm to move back and forth within the housing. A tube connecting the space on the second side of the diaphragm to the gas source and the patient's airway is provided. Also disclosed is a method of ventilating a patient with the high frequency oscillating ventilator, and a double lumen endotracheal tube for use in connection therewith.

  • Patent number: 4677426
Abstract: A dust detector ring assembly for detecting extremely small quantities of particulate contamination in air being taken into the carburetor of an engine is disclosed. The assembly includes a series of infrared light emitting diodes alternately interposed with a like series of infrared light detecting diodes and arranged in a circle around an interior surface portion of a frame defining a passageway of circular cross-section therethrough. A light beam generated by each of the emitters is directed against a different one of the detectors so that the light beams intersect one another at a common point in the passageway. The sensitivity of the assembly is thus greatest at the common point of intersection of the light beams and decreases proportionally moving away from the intersection point toward the defining surface of the passageway. A flexible circuit board is formed in a circle and is connected to the emitters and detectors. A flat circuit board is connected to the circular circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4646240
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for obtaining a recording of facies of geological formations, logging instruments are moved in a borehole to produce log measurements at successive levels of the borehole. With each level is associated a reference sample whose coordinates are constituted by the respective measurements in a multidimensional space defined by the different logs. The scatter of samples thus obtained is analyzed to distinguish modes characteristic of clusters in which the concentration of samples is the highest. The samples may then be associated with selected modes to form classes each characteristic of a respective facie, and the facies then displayed as a function of the depth of the respective associated sample.
