Patent number: 8243913Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, limiting contact to a networked contact center that is a host to multiple tenants. In an example embodiment, a communication is received by a networked contact center. In determining whether to allow the communication to reach contact center resources, a contact rate value may be examined. The contact rate value may represent an allowable quantity of contact within a time interval. For some example embodiments, a determination of whether the network contact center is to accept or reject the communication is made based on the contact rate value.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2008Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: 8×8, Inc.Inventor: Robert Townsend

Patent number: 8244174Abstract: Mobile station positioning is implemented using various methods and devices. According to one example embodiment of the present invention, an azimuth angle estimation of the location of a mobile station is accomplished using a radio-signal processing apparatus. The azimuth angle is estimated with respect to a nearby base station that covers a service area using common sectorization via multiple directional antennas respectively transmitting at different azimuth angles. The apparatus has a memory for storing information that associates directional sector antennas of the nearby base station and expected antenna radiation gains in the common sectorization service area corresponding to locations relative to the nearby base station.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2006Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventor: Seung Hyun Kong

Patent number: 8238263Abstract: A network status is determined based on channel data specifying at least one channel characteristic of a communications channel. Changes in various channel characteristics are indicative of changes in a status of a distributed network. Therefore, these channel characteristics can be monitored over time to identify changes to the status of the distributed network. Changes to channel characteristics can be identified based on normalized channel data that is normalized relative to reference channel data. Status scores are generated based on the normalized channel data. The status scores are, in turn, normalized for channels that are identified as valid channels. The normalized status scores are adjusted based on variations of the channel data and the network status is identified based on status score variations. Status data identifying the network status is generated based on the status of the network.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Landis+Gyr Technologies, LLCInventors: Rodney Kohout, Stanley E. Patent number: 8237155Abstract: Nanotube electronic devices exhibit selective affinity to disparate nanotube types. According to an example embodiment, a semiconductor device exhibits a treated substrate that selectively interacts (e.g., chemically) with nanotubes of a first type, relative to nanotubes of a second type, the respective types including semiconducting-type and metallic-type nanotubes. The selective interaction is used to set device configuration characteristics based upon the nanotube type. This selective-interaction approach can be used to set the type, and/or characteristics of nanotubes in the device.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventors: Zhenan Bao, Melburne Lemieux, Justin P. Patent number: 8230257Abstract: Power-backup capabilities are provided by implementing a variety of different methods, systems and devices. According to one such implementation, a solid-state memory device is implemented with a primary power source that provides primary power. A secondary power source provides secondary power. A power controller provides the primary power to an operating power circuit. The secondary power is provided by enabling a secondary switch located between the secondary power source and the operating power circuit. A solid-state memory uses power from the operating power circuit as a primary source of power when accessing stored data and retains data in the absence of power being provided by the operating power circuit. A memory controller facilitates access to the stored data. In response to problems with the primary power source, pending writes are completed to the solid-state memory circuit. A timing circuit substantially delays full enablement of the secondary switch.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2009Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventor: Dean Clark Wilson

Patent number: 8218895Abstract: A retargeted image substantially retains the context of an original image while emphasizing the information content of a determined region of interest within the original image. Image regions surrounding the region of interest are warped without regard to preserving their information content and/or aspect ratios, while the region of interest is modified to preserve its aspect ratio and image content. The surrounding image regions can be warped to fit the resulting warped image regions into the available display space surrounding the unwarped region of interest. The surrounding image regions can be warped using one or more fisheye warping functions, which can be Cartesian or polar fisheye warping functions, and more specifically linear or linear-polynomial Cartesian fisheye warping functions, which are applied along each direction or axis of the region of interest. The image region on each side of the region of interest can be modified using one or more steps.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2006Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Wisconsin Alumni Research FoundationInventors: Michael Lee Gleicher, Feng Liu

Patent number: 8204302Abstract: An image containing one or more types of objects to be located is analyzed to locate linear features within the image. The objects have edges having known spatial relationships. The linear features and identified virtual lines are analyzed to find groups of linear features and/or virtual lines that have one of the known spatial relationships. These relationships can include parallel edges, edges that meet at certain angles or angle ranges, the number of lines meeting a vertex and the like. The identified group is compared with projected 2-dimensional representation(s) of the object(s) to determine whether any additional lines appear in the image that are part of the located object. In various exemplary embodiments, two or more hypotheses for how the identified group of linear features maps to the 3-dimensional representation of the object can be generated. The best fitting hypothesis becomes the recognized 3-dimensional shape and orientation for that object.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2011Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Wisconsin Alumni Research FoundationInventors: Paul A. Patent number: 8108333Abstract: Probability densities are calculated. According to an example embodiment, a Gaussian probability density is computed for a set of data representing a multivariate Gaussian distribution (Gaussian) by matching moments of truncated distributions. A distribution is projected onto dimensions of the set of data to generate cavity-local Gaussians. For the set of data, site-local univariate Gaussians are selected so that the moments match cavity-local univariate Gaussians (the moments of the product of the cavity-local Gaussians and the selected site-local univariate Gaussians, match the moments of the product of the cavity-local Gaussians and the cavity-local truncations). The selected site-local univariate Gaussians are aggregated globally to form a new global Gaussian.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2008Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventor: John Patrick Cunningham
