  • Patent number: 6462868
Abstract: A display device is provided which permits viewing of both hardcopy and digital images. An embodiment of an image viewing station comprises a housing having an internal light source and a light transmissive display panel coupled to the housing such that light from the internal light source passes therethrough. Hardcopy images affixed to an outer surface of the display panel may be transilluminated by the light passing through the display panel. Digital images may also be displayed on the display panel, by projecting the digital images onto either the inner or outer surface of the display panel. Alternatively, the panel could include a light emitting or light transmissive display panel, such as a liquid crystal display or an electroluminescent panel. Light emitted by the display panel may be sufficient to transilluminate a hardcopy image disposed on an outer surface of the display panel.

  • Patent number: 6452910
Abstract: A Wireless bridge conjoins two previously incompatible technologies within a single device to leverage the strengths of each. The Wireless bridge marries the Personal Area Network (PAN) technology of Bluetooth as described in Bluetooth Specification Version 1.0B with the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology described in the IEEE802.11aspecification to provide a wireless system level solution for peripheral devices to provide Internet service interactions. The invention brings together in a single working device implementations of these technologies so they do not interfere or disrupt the operation of each other and instead provide a seamless transition of a Bluetooth connection to Wireless Local Area Network/Internet connection. From the Wireless Local Area Network perspective the inventive wireless bridge extension allows a Bluetooth-enabled device to roam from one Wireless Access Point (bridge) to the next without losing its back end connection.

  • Patent number: 6445464
Abstract: An image processing method and an image processing apparatus are provided for maintaining image quality through simple processing while reducing the number of gradation levels of image data by error diffusion processing. In an image processing apparatus, data outputted from a filter is subtracted from input image data x(i, j) at a first subtracter. Data outputted from the subtracter is quantified at a quantifier. Data outputted from the quantizer is outputted as output image data y(i, j). Furthermore, the data outputted from the subtracter is subtracted from the data outputted from the quantizer at a second subtracter to produce quantization error e0(i, j). At a quantization error converter, quantization error e0(i, j) is converted into quantization error e1(i, j) within a specific range determined for each quantization level, based on the quantization level after quantization at the quantizer. Quantization error e1(i, j) is inputted to the filter.

  • Patent number: 6442251
Abstract: A phone application includes a note button. During a call, when the note button is pressed, a note entry screen is presented to a user. The note entry screen is pre-populated with information already known about the phone call (number of caller, number dialed, name of caller, name of person called, etc.). The know information is retrieved from network data, including phone number and caller id for incoming calls, and the number dialed for outgoing calls, each in conjunction with the user's address book. The user completes the note entry screen including any notes the user wishes to make regarding the phone call. Upon completion of the note, if an address book entry has not been made or is incomplete, an address book entry screen is presented to the user to make or complete an entry for the caller/person called. The phone application runs on a PDA having telephone capabilities.

  • Patent number: 6429922
Abstract: A reproduction film is made capable of obtaining stable reproduction characteristics constantly. A master negative film is used to transfer data onto a reproduction film upon exposing the master negative film on which the data is recorded at the prescribed gray value, when multiple exposed areas and unexposed areas having the predetermined shape are arranged alternatively, and at the same time, the readout pattern having a guard band between the exposed area and unexposed area on the master negative film to control readout timing of the data transferred to the reproduction film, the width of the guard band is controlled corresponding to the gray value. Thereby, the signal level to be obtained from the reproduction film is to keep the fixed relative value with respect to the signal level to be obtained from the data part transferred to the reproduction film.

  • Patent number: 6430314
Abstract: Described are methods for entering and editing data strings that are inputted into cellular telephones having a screen. In one method, all basic Hangul consonants and some of the compound Hangul consonants are included in a candidate consonant list and all basic Hangul vowels and some of the compound vowels are included in a candidate vowel list. The candidate consonant and vowel lists are alternatively displayed on a component display region (906) located on the screen. To form a Korean character, a user can select consonant(s) and vowel from the candidate consonant and vowel lists. To form a compound Hangul component that is not included in either the candidate consonant list or the candidate vowel list, the user selects a basic Hangul component as a first part of the compound Hangul component from either the candidate consonant list or the candidate vowel list.

  • Patent number: 6430221
Abstract: A transmitter, a receiver, a transmitting method, and a receiving method which make it possible to transmit or receive moving image data with higher resolution than specified by the prescribed coding and decoding modes. A split moving image data is obtained by dividing a second moving image data for one frame in a second image format in accordance with an image size in a first image format and the dummy moving image data in the first image format are sequentially and alternately coded and transmitted. The split moving image data and the dummy moving image data which have been coded and transmitted are then received and decoded. The split moving image data which has been obtained is then selectively used to reproduce second moving image data.

  • Patent number: 6413786
Abstract: A device and a method enable the rapid, quantitative evaluation of a large collection of ligands for binding affinity with a certain immobilized receptor, the improvements being that binding pan be detected without the need for a label and that binding is carried out in solution phase at a high rate. The instrument has at least two embodiments, one is based on a sensitive absorption photometer and the other on a sensitive light scatter photometer operating at a specific resonance wavelength, &lgr;R, of small, metallic, colloidal particles. The resonance is present in small particles having a complex refractive index with real part n(&lgr;) approaching 0 and imaginary part k(&lgr;) approaching 2 simultaneously at a specific wavelength &lgr;R. The particles are substantially spherical and substantially smaller than &lgr;R. The receptor is immobilized on a suspension of such particles and ligand binding is detected by a change in optical absorption or light scatter at the resonance wavelength.
