  • Patent number: 6712939
Abstract: A process for manufacturing wet-felted and thermally bonded porous structures is provided to produce formed porous media for use in filters with improved filtration performance. The process includes the steps of forming a slurry with a primary media consisting of natural or synthetic fibers, a wet strength agent consisting of fibrillated fibers, and a binding agent; vacuum forming the slurry to produce a formed media; drying the formed media using a gas at a temperature below the melting temperature of the binding agent; bonding the formed media using a gas at a temperature above the melting temperature of the binding agent; and cooling the formed media using a gas at ambient temperature. The process produces a formed porous media with improved bonding which results in improved filtration performance.

  • Patent number: 6652770
Abstract: The increase of temperature in heat sensitive devices during heat generating conditions is prevented through the absorption of heat, by providing Organic Acids in an amount sufficient to effect the required heat absorption. Where the heat generating conditions are generated by a heat generator, separate and distinct from the heat sensitive device, the Organic Acid is supported in a position between the heat sensitive device and the heat generator. Where the heat sensitive device is itself the heat generator, the Organic Acid is contacted to the heat sensitive device either directly or indirectly.

  • Patent number: 6650072
Abstract: A control circuit is provided for regulating the rotational speed of a brushless DC motor by pulse width modulating at least one power transistor to pass a motor supply signal to the motor armature. A voltage averaging circuit generates an averaged signal indicative of the average voltage level being supplied to the motor. The averaged voltage signal is compared against a reference voltage to determine motor speed error in order to maintain the rotational speed of the motor at a generally constant level. A sawtooth or other periodic ramp signal is added to a motor current signal, and this composite signal is monitored by a comparator until it overcomes the motor speed error signal. The pwm circuit thereby modulates the power supply to regulate motor speed while maintaining a symmetrical motor armature current waveform.

  • Patent number: 6644742
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel seating device (1) with an elastic support element (2), at least one support leg (3) and a seat element (4), wherein the support element (2) has a substantially toroidal support body (9) standing on the ground. One great advantage provided by the novel seating device is that upward and downward movements can be slightly dampened thereby substantially alleviating the load on the back. Slight circular movements can also be effected which have an especially prophylactic effect against possible back injuries.

  • Patent number: 6607722
Abstract: A method for inducing differentiation of monocytes contained in an extracorporeal quantity of a subject's blood into functional dendritic antigen presenting cells is provided. The monocytes are first treated by exposure to physical perturbation, irradiation in the presence of a photoactivatable agent capable of forming photoadducts with cellular DNA components, and/or treatment with a DNA binding agent. The treated monocytes are then incubated for a period of time sufficient to maximize the number of functional dendritic cells in the treated cell population. Functional dendritic cells generated from induced monocytes are incubated together with disease effector agents to enhance the presentation of at least one disease-causing antigen expressed by the disease effector agents.

  • Patent number: 6604561
Abstract: A resealable cap for a medicament vial has a base portion formed of vulcanized rubber or like material known for providing a stable environment for the medicament contained within the vial, and a resealable portion overlying the base portion. The resealable portion is made of low-density polyethylene or like material, and can be punctured by a needle or like injection member for dispensing medicament into the vial. Prior to filling, the cap is assembled to the vial and the cap/vial assembly is sterilized. Then, a needle is inserted through the cap and medicament is introduced through the needle and into the vial. Upon withdrawal of the needle, the penetrated region of the cap is fused by laser or direct heat sealing to hermetically seal the needle hole in the cap.

  • Patent number: 6601864
Abstract: A device for preventing a wheelchair or a walker from passing through a doorway, the doorway having a predetermined dimension, e.g., a predetermined height. The device includes a barrier and a coupling for securing the barrier to the; wheelchair or the walker such that a portion of the barrier extends from the wheelchair or the walker. The barrier has a primary dimension sized such that a combined dimension, e.g., a combined height, of the wheelchair or the walker and the portion of the barrier extending from the wheelchair or walker is greater than the predetermined height of the doorway, such that the barrier prevents the wheelchair or the walker from passing through the doorway. The present disclosure, therefore, provides a device for preventing a wheelchair or a walker from passing through a doorway to keep a patient in a defined area and prevent the patient from entering another area where the patient might be endangered or endanger others.
