  • Patent number: 4638570
Abstract: An improved Roots-type blower (10) and fixture (200) for timing rotors (20, 22) and timing gears (36, 38) of the blower during assembly. The blower includes a housing (12) defining generally cylindrical chambers containing the rotors having meshed, helical lobes (20c, 22c). The rotors are fixed to stepped diameter shafts (24, 26) pressed into stepped bores (20d, 22d) in the rotors. Straight splines on the shafts respectively form mating splines in the rotor bores and in the hub bore of timing gear (36). In a modified form of the blower, the straight splines form matting splines in both timing gears. The shafts are supported in the housing by fixed ball bearings (28, 30) at one end of the rotors and at the other end by ball bearing (32, 34) resiliently biased by springs which preload all four bearings. The fixture includes a base (202) having two surfaces (202f, 240a) for supporting ends (20b, 22b) of the rotors.

  • Patent number: 4638894
Abstract: A disc brake unit for machinery, hoists and the like having a pair of brake shoes normally spring biased to a brake engaged condition. A hydraulically operated first piston may be hydraulically actuated to relieve the spring bias to release the spring pressure acting on the disc and thus release the brake. A second piston may then be actuated for moving the brake shoes against the disc and applying a modulated force to the disc while the fist piston is in position to oppose the spring bias, to thereby apply slip braking torque to the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 4639203
Abstract: A rotary fluid pressure device is disclosed of the type including housing means defining a fluid inlet (57) and a fluid outlet (61) and including some form of rotary fluid energy-translating displacement mechanism associated with the housing. In one embodiment of the invention, the displacement mechanism comprises a gerotor gear set (17) including a housing member (22), an internally-toothed ring (23), and an externally-toothed star (27). Included is a free-wheeling mechanism (71) having an engagement member (73) and an actuation means (81) operable to move the engagement member between first and second positions. In a first position, the engagement member (73) prevents rotational movement of the ring (23) and the star (27) has its normal and orbital rotational movement to define expanding (28) and contracting (29) fluid volume chambers.

  • Patent number: 4639154
Abstract: A dual station printer mechanism (10) including a first feed roller (22), a second feed roller (24), drive means (16) having an output shaft (20) for driving the first and second feed rollers (22, 24) and coupling means in the form of one-way clutches (34, 36) for selectively coupling and decoupling the first and second feed rollers (22, 24) from the output shaft of the drive means. Mechanism (10) further preferably includes a first pressure roller (68) normally biased against first feed roller (22) and a second pressure roller (80) normally biased against second feed roller (24) for enabling effective movement of first and second data carriers respectively therebetween to a position between a printhead 70 and a print bar 72 at which printing occurs.

  • Patent number: 4638898
Abstract: A clutch control system and clutch assembly utilizing same includes a comparator (10) for receiving a signal (A) corresponding to actual engine speed from a sensor member (6) and a signal (D) corresponding to desired engine speed from a sensor member (8) to provide an output signal (A-D). Signal (A-D) is provided to a summer (16) as well as a differentiator (14) which operates upon (A-D) to provide the differential with respect to time ##EQU1## which is received by summer (16) which provides the function signal ##EQU2## to an actuator (2) which utilizes the functional signal to control clutch (4). The functional signal may also include one or more weighting factors such as (K.sub.1) to control the magnitude of signals (A) and/or (D) and/or (A-d) and/or ##EQU3## in the manner desired.

  • Patent number: 4638321
Abstract: The angle of arrival (.theta.) of an RF signal is determined using only two widely spaced antennas (A, B). A coarse/fine measurement system (40) is disclosed wherein the actual time delay between zero-crossings responsive to the same RF carrier cycle within the pulse envelope arriving at each antenna is determined. There is no need for additional antenna pairs with different baselines to otherwise resolve ambiguity.

  • Patent number: 4638226
Abstract: A motor (M) supplied by AC full-wave voltage is controlled by a triac (Q2) under the control of a double-time constant triggering circuit which has a speed setting branch (R3-C2) connected at the triac (Q2) side of the motor (M) and the other time constant branch (R1-C1) connected at the supply side of the motor (M) to provide a feedback function as well as a first time constant. A unidirectional diode (D1) is incorporated in the feedback sensing time constant branch for rendering feedback signals only on alternate half cycles to prevent oscillation and overcompensation of motor speed due to the feedback signal. A soft-start circuit, usable also in half-wave applications, is incorporated in the branch containing adjustable speed setting resistor and comprises a transistor (Q3) having its collector-emitter circuit connected in series with the adjustable resistor (R3).
