  • Patent number: 4840274
Abstract: A protective device for preventing damage to the outer layers of a coil of metal by band retainer clips. The protective device includes a bottom panel having a portion thereof disposed between the outer layer of a metal coil and a band retainer clip, a pair of cushions spaced apart to define a pocket therebetween for receiving the clip, and a top panel or lid for enclosing the clip in the pocket. In use, the cushions are located on opposite sides of the clip so that they prevent the clip from being pressed against the outer layer of the metal coil. This prevents damage to the outer layers of the metal coil during transport and storage. In one embodiment of the protective device, both of the cushions are mounted on the bottom panel while, in an alternative embodiment of the protective device, one cushion is mounted on the bottom panel and the other cushion is mounted on the top panel to provide maximum space between the cushions when the top panel is opened.

  • Patent number: 4828252
Abstract: Apparatus for training athletes, especially football lineman, includes a frame having a pair of guide rails extending between front and rear upright posts. The guide rails are arranged parallel to each other and have generally horizontal sections and inclined sections. The training apparatus also includes a weight assembly supported by the frame for movement on the guide rails. In using the training apparatus, an athlete moves upwardly and forwardly from a crouched position between the front upright posts of the frame and pushes the weight assembly along the horizontal sections of the guide rails and then up the inclined sections of the guide rails. The training apparatus is particularly effective in developing and strengthening the upper body muscles of athletes.

  • Patent number: 4827385
Abstract: A pocket flashlight utilizes a push button type of switch assembly retained in one end of a cylindrical casing by a metal retainer. A lamp bulb is disposed in the other end of the casing. The switch assembly includes a shuttle formed of conductive material which is movable within a sleeve into and out of electrical contact with the retainer to illuminate and extinguish the bulb. The switch assembly also includes a rotor and a plunger movably disposed in the sleeve. The shuttle may be locked in electrical contact with the retainer by engaging teeth on the rotor with splines on the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4766803
Abstract: A control linkage for varying the length of stroke of a hydraulic cylinder is disclosed wherein a slide member is telescopically received within a bracket member, one of these members being connected to the extension end of the hydraulic cylinder while the other member is connected to the base end. A limiting mechanism in the form of a series of holes in one of the members alignable with a slotted opening in the other member and a fastener positionable within one of said holes and also through the slotted opening serves to limit the amount of telescopic movement of the slide member from the bracket member. As a result, the extension of the hydraulic cylinder can be selectively varied according to the preset length of the control linkage. An alternative embodiment in which a fastener is positionable within the holes externally of the slotted opening provides a two way stroke limiter by restricting the length of the retraction stroke of the hydraulic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4446786
Abstract: In a roll baling machine having a bale forming apron defining an expandable bale chamber, guide members extending into the bale chamber to support the apron and thereby define an initial shape for the bale chamber, the guide members being movable out of the bale chamber during bale formation without being opposed by springs which exert force to urge the guide members back into the bale chamber only after a bale that is being discharged from the machine has cleared the guide members.

  • Patent number: 4262228
Abstract: An electric lamp including a reflector and a lens secured together to define an enclosure therebetween. A bulb is supported in the enclosure by support wires. Each support wire has a substantially U-shaped portion, and the base portion of the bulb is engaged in the substantially U-shaped portions of the support wires.

  • Patent number: 4252379
Abstract: A pressure control valve for use in vehicle hydraulic diagonal split brake systems. The valve includes two valve pistons which operate to limit the fluid pressure delivered to the rear wheel brakes relative to that delivered to the front wheel brakes. The valve also includes a failure warning mechanism having a switch actuating piston. In the event of a failure in one branch of the diagonal split brake system, the switch actuating piston operates to simultaneously preclude the two valve pistons from limiting the rear wheel brake pressure so that the rear wheel brake in the unfailed branch of the brake system can develop the maximum braking effort for vehicle emergency braking.

  • Patent number: 4196937
Abstract: A valve for use in vehicle hydraulic brake systems for the purpose of limiting the rear wheel brake pressure relative to the front wheel brake pressure in order to reduce the potential for premature rear wheel lock. The valve includes a proportioning piston which operates to limit the fluid pressure delivered to the rear wheel brakes and an inertia member which senses changes in vehicle loading. When a vehicle is fully loaded, the inertia member remains in a position where it will disable the proportioning piston in its open position and, consequently, the rear wheel brake pressure will be equal to the front wheel brake pressure. When the same vehicle is unloaded, the inertia member moves in response to deceleration to a position where it will not disable the proportioning piston in its open position so that the rear wheel brake pressure will be reduced relative to the front wheel brake pressure.
