Abstract: There is disclosed the use of decarboxylated rosins as total or partial replacements for oil in rubber formulations. Vulcanizate properties, low temperature performance, and processibility are comparable when using either the decarboxylated rosins or an aromatic extending oil, however, the decarboxylated rosin extended rubber demonstrates improved abrasion resistance.
Abstract: There is disclosed a new polymer bound catalyst, a means for the production of a polymer bound aryl substituted crown ether and use of such polymer bound aryl substituted crown ethers as catalysts.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the functionalization of polymeric resins, wherein a halo-methylated resin, with a crosslink density of at least 4 percent is reacted with an alkyllithium wherein the alkyl radical is 1 to 12 carbon atoms; followed by a reaction to produce a polymeric material having a desired pendant functionality. Materials produced from the process of this invention have utility as intermediates in the production of polymer-bound catalysts and exchange resins.
Abstract: The invention relates to a finishing process for the removal of low level concentrations of mercaptans, sulfides and disulfides from a gas stream, especially a natural gas stream. The sulfur compounds are washed from the gas stream with a solution containing hydrogen peroxide, sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide, and ammonia or an amine.
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved method of preparing dibenzothiazolyl disulfides by oxidizing mercaptobenzothiazole with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an amine. The invention has particular utility by providing a relatively pollution free method of preparing dibenzothiazolyl disulfides.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the reductive alkylation of aromatic nitro-containing compounds with ketones or aldehydes wherein the improvement is characterized in that a specific polymer bound co-catalyst system is utilized. More specifically, a polymer bound anthranilic acid palladium complex is used in conjunction with a bound sulfonic acid resin as a catalyst system in a reaction to produce compounds such as N-phenyl-N'-alkyl-p-phenylenediamine.
Abstract: This invention discloses a novel class of polymeric diphenylamine compounds. The compounds are produced by reacting diphenylamine with a dihydroxyalkylbenzene having either meta or para orientation in the presence of an acid catalyst. The polymeric diphenylamine compounds are useful as antioxidants.

Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the hydrogenation of carbon-carbon double bonds of an unsaturated polymer which comprises (a) combining an unsaturated polymer in latex form with (1) an oxidant selected from the group consisting of oxygen, air and hydroperoxides; (2) a reducing agent selected from the group of hydrazine and hydrates thereof; and (3) a metal ion initiator; (b) heating the mixture to a temperature from 0.degree. C. to the reflux temperature of the reaction mixture.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the modification of a chloromethylated latex wherein said latex contains a surfactant of a nonionic or ionic-type comprising contacting said latex with an aqueous alkali solution and an alkali ionizable molecule containing antidegradant properties at a reaction temperature below 100.degree. C. and in the presence of a nitrogen atmosphere.
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of treating soybeans with 1-triacontanol CH.sub.3 (CH.sub.2).sub.28 --CH.sub.2 OH, which produces a significant increase in yield. The method consists of applying a solution of "biologically active" 1-triacontanol at the proper: (1) stage of soybean plant maturity, (2) pH, (3) calcium content, (4) application rates and (5) number of applications; to attain a significant increase in yield. At least two foliar applied aqueous solutions of 1-triacontanol have been found to be effective.
Abstract: There is disclosed a new polymer bound catalyst, a means for the production of a polymer bound aryl substituted crown ether and use of such polymer bound aryl substituted crown ethers as catalysts.
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved process for the destruction of halogenated organic compounds through treatment with an alkali metal aromatic radical anion reagent wherein the improvement comprises the elimination of the water quench step.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for producing polymers that contain pendant unsaturation. The present invention provides a versatile method for the preparation of polymers that contain a wide range of unsaturated pendant groups.
